Oblivion?

I don't use AC3, so I can't say if its possible or how to do it, but try disabling AC3 for oblivion? I use FFDshow/audio, and I remember having to add Oblivion to the exception list so it didn't run.

Bethseda and sound cards have always been funny. If you have not already tried updating to the latest driver, I'd start there. But most likely you tried that, so maybe reverting to a previous driver is worth a try.

Try this this as well.

Thanks for the help everyone!

First, I tried disabling everything but AC3 use in AC3Filter and that stopped it from running when running Oblivion. However, the problem of audio stuttering still remained.

I then checked my mods again to make sure I had the Oblivion Stutter Remover correctly installed. Everything look good to go on that.

Finally, I figured, what the heck, I'll check my sound drivers. I assumed that they wouldn't be the source of the problem since I had been using the latest ones for months and Creative doesn't update their drivers often. Plus, Oblivion is a 4 year old game so a recent drivers couldn't be the source of the problem, could they? Well, I installed the latest drivers that Creative just happened to release about 10 days ago (first time they've updated in almost a year for my soundcard I believe), and now everything appears to be running like a charm after about an hour last night.

Only other problem I have had is with my distant-LOD. I installed the RAEVWD, RAEVWD SI, and RAEVWD QTP3 Add-on. After that I ran the TES4LODGen as instructed in the ReadMe, however, I am still only getting just about the vanilla LOD to show up when walking out of the Imperial Prison Sewers.

It ends up looking like this, http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/2973/oblivion201006120538249.jpg rather than even remotely like this, http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/5619/oblivion201006152010104.png as posted on the previous page of this thread.

I may just live with it but it's frustrating nonetheless. :p

Sounds like you need to get ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated. I'm not sure if that will solve everything, but it seems like you still have vanilla textures and the textures should work after that. You might need to get QTP3 itself. Check the requirements, as I have not used RAEVWD yet.

I'm running mostly stock with a couple of major visual updates: QTP3 (Qarl's Texture Pack), and All Natural (Installed via Wrye Python) which provides better lighting and weather.

Oddly enough I was going to give this a shot when I got home. I have been using OBMM and it's built-in ArchiveInvalidation utility, but I have been reading that it's not always effective. I'll try that tonight and report back.

And I have been using QTP3 along with several other graphical mods that were recommended. Spent several hours researching them, heh. You could tell the differences in the sewers as well as when I went into the Imperial City, but other than that it looked pretty much awful in the distance. I'll see what happens. :)

Yeah, I used the Redimzed version. I tried the ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated and still nothing really different except a ton of lag when looking at the Imperial City. Nothing changed texture wise in the distance (still looks great up close). Not sure what else to do. :p

Can't get it to work with Steam version Vista 64. Tried most everything Steam suggests. Any other hints?

Based on you're continuing to talk about archive invalidations, it sounds like you're going about the modding thing the hard way. These days, you can get just about any mod in a OMOD (QTP for example) which is super painless to install with OBMM.

The most challenging things i had to work with was Wrye Python to install the All Natural Mod (highly recommended). It took me a few minutes to figure out how to work the damn program. But follow the instructions and taking my time, the install was pain free.

I just seems to me, good mod managers pretty much take care of archive invalidation for you. Doing things the old way by manually enabling hte ESP's and what not....you should only have to do that with the minor mods like ones that chage the rate at which magica regenerates or something. Not major mods like QTP, leveling mods, character mods, etc.

Make things easier on yourself :)

I have QTP3 Redimzed as an OMOD along with many other mods. My problem has never been with QTP3 but rather with RAEVWD which doesn't have an OMOD package unless you make it yourself which is what I tried after installing it the long way before hand. Not all mods support OMOD. There are a ton of great mods out there that still go about it the old school way.

OMOD is supposed to handle the ArchiveInvalidation for you, but I have read many reports that it's not always accurate with your mods. Since the LOD wasn't showing up after I had followed all of the directions, I tried using the ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated which didn't seem to help either. All of my other mods work save for this one. I would think its just the mod, but it's frustrating when I have friends who are using all of the same mods as me with just about the exact same hardware specifications with no problems.

I agree though. OMODs definitely help speed up the process.

I don't use Omod's. Just manually install the mods and tweak them to my liking. RAEVWD was anoying to install manually but only takes like 10 minutes a really does make a big difference. At least now I can see most of the major features in the distance which really helps me in exploration. Not quite as impressive as Morrowind's Graphics extender but it performs much better.

Hmmm, now that I remember, OBMM had a few methods for archive invalidation. In one method it "does it for you" by editing the archive invalidation text file every time you install a mod. That's not the ideal method.

The second method, which is usually best, is it let's you use archive invalidated. After that, OBMM doesn't do any more invalidation ever again. It doesn't need to. Installing a mod with/without OBMM won't make a difference unless two different mods overwrite the same mesh/texture/sound.

With the third method is it actually edits the BSA's for you.

I think archive invalidated (second one mentioned) is the best method. The only con is that the game doesn't work for a very very select few people (not 100% on that last statement). Always good to check to see what method it's using.

I haven't used RAEVWD, but doesn't it generate all it's meshes from whatever is in your folder? Or is it a huge .BSA with a lot of meshes and textures already in it?

Yeah, that's what it's supposed to do. You have to run the TES4LODGen after you install RAEVWD and it's supposed to use your meshes and textures that you've added. I have the QTP3 Redimzed and a couple other various weapon textures and whatnot so I should be good to go. =S

grab ooo the unofficial patches and qarls texture pack makes the game 10x better than it already is

Not sure if it's already been suggested, but if you haven't already been to the official forums, you should try asking your questions there. It was once a fairly active forum and there are plenty of people there that understand the game's quirks intimately.

Didn't even think about that. Thanks for the tip.

I appear to have gotten RAEVWD working now. However, I can look out over all of Tamriel with no lag but as soon as I get the Imperial City in my view, it lags to about 15fps or less. I can look straight up being next to the Imperial City, no problems, 60fps at least, but if I turn with the IC in view, it goes to crap. :p I don't have any mods like Streamline or Purge Cell Buffers. Would they help?
