Here's my system:
AMD 2.0 ghz
1 gig of ram
GeForce 6600 GT

Maybe it's just me but shouldn't I get better than 8 (EIGHT!!!) friggin fps during almost any fight?
Hopefully either a patch or something will fix this because this is ridiculous.

lol, I was thinking someone was violating you when you slept in the game or something.

As for the performance, I dont think your system meets the recommended requirements (which developers should call the minimum if you ask me, but thats another topic). Try lowering the details and the resolution.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who saw the thread title and thought that, haha...

I am running on an AMD 64 3200+
1 gig of corsair 3200 CL memory
X800XT AGP video card.

Runs smooth for me. BARELY a hitch.

I run at 1024x768 with everything on high except for AA. (none.)

Still looks and runs great for me.

It DOES help that I have each of my drives on a seperate channel and have Oblivion installed to a seperate drive from the OS and other apps.

I have a 6600GT, gig of ram, and an athlon xp 2500 (barton). I got similar results til I started turning some of the shadow and foliage options off. I don't expect bethesda to do anything about it. I guess I should just be lucky that I'm going to be upgrading soon.

I'm getting around 20-30FPS with the system in my sig. Medium detail, med. texture size and most draw settings about half-the way up. Pretty good for a 3 year old system :p

As for your problem, try re-installing the game and updating your video drivers. Does the problem happen only when you're in combat, or does it do it when there are lots of people around/in the city?

just say "No!" ..and carry a little can of mace around with you ..

..and maybe see if anything is running in the background hoggen resources ..turn stuff down to butt ugly and see how it runs and then add eye candy until it starts chuggen' to bad..

CCleaner
Ad-Aware
Spybot Search & Destroy
RegscrupXP
RegoptNT
Defrag
..sometimes allowing windows to manage pagefile actually works better than specifying yourself
..update drivers maybe as already mentioned or reinstall current drivers after doing thorough cleaning of drivers using drivercleaner
..I think someone mentioned installing 2006 release of directx in another thread and that seemed to help them with some oddities they were having
..msconfig and turn whatever crap off under services (after you check "hide all microsoft stuff") and start up ..hit apply then reboot

Yeah... sorry for the crappy starting post... I was kinda spazing out. Anyway the 8 fps thing only happens in fights no matter what the res or graphics quality, or the amount of enemies. It just confondles me... I mean EIGHT? I tried turning all the graphics to nothing so I couldn't even see my opponent in the arena. But still, eight. Turned them up a little, EIGHT! Turned the res to I think 300x400, so I could count the pixels, still EIGHT!11!11!!8!18 I'm fine in FEAR, Farcry, you name it, but this game like to rape me! HARD!

I get 20fps at 1280x1024 with the system below. I haven't payed much attention wwhat the FPS drops to in a fight as I am to busy fighting. I am planning on getting a 7900GT and another Gig of Ram ASAP to help with the problem tho!
