I'm running 1280x1024 with full sliders, no self, canopy, or grass shadows, large textures (4096), HDR on, no AA or AF and getting 15-20 fps?? This seems rather slow to me.

I installed 6.6 drivers, .net and ATI tray tool.

I run similar settings but I have AF turned up and AA at 2x with HDR on.

Running the 6.5 drivers with chuck patch.

Indoors I get over 70fps and Outdoors the lowest it hits is 20-25ish.

My card is oc'd to 690/1600 and my cpu is oc'd as well.

I should mention that I have the config file for Oblivion tweaked for a dual core, there are several options that can make the game use more threads and run more smoothly.

Also, there are some other tweaks for people with 2gb of ram that I have done, which you should be able to take advantage of.

Did your OC have a decent impact for those settings? I couldn't run 3/4-full settings with HDR and no AA on my 6800gs without heavily OCing.

I'm installing the chuck beta for 6.6 right now to see how that does.

That seems a little low for the settings. I run the settings the same as yours however I use the canopy shadows and 4x HQAF. I get about 30-ish, with minor fluctuations. My specs in sig.

According to gpureview, when the X1800xt is at 690/1600, it's actually a little faster than a stock X1900XT in pixel fill rate (not shaders of course). So yeah I'd say the oc on the vid card is helping. I haven't done any real testing at stock speeds.

We also have very different cpus, which I think is making a significant difference here, especially since Oblivion can be tweaked for dual cores.

Are you using ATI tool for OCing?

CCC won't let me go past 690/1585. Will multiple auto-oc runs raise it?

Yeah probably, sometimes that stupid feature crashes my system though.

You may have ended up with weak ram though. 690 is as high as it allows on the core though.

Yeah the test froze right as it completed the memory bench.

I tried FEAR last night (after OC) and it was playable (40fps+/-) at 1280x1024, max settings across the board, no Soft Shadows and 4xAA and 4xAF. I was hoping for 8xAF. Benchmarks seem to show 4xAA and 8xAF at 40fps at that res.

Oblivion still lags like crazy at the settings I was using on my 6800gs. I don't know whats going on there. Its fine for a few minutes, then it lags reeeally bad.

OC that P4 a bit. Most Prescotts are good for at least 3.8-4.2ghz.

Totally - but my mobo is 915p Intel board so the multiplier/FSB is locked. I'm waitin for a nice Conroe system.
