I have a PC and a 360 both hooked up to my 2005fpw, my video card is a x800xl, what would be the best route? get it for 360 or PC?

Graphically the 360 version should run smoother and look a bit bitter, , i guess it just depends on which controls you like also.

If you know about morrowind you know that one of the appeals of this game is the mods that will come out. These will be PC only. Look up all the mods for morrowind to see how many will come out over time for oblivion. I think this gives the PC a huge advantage that 360 players won't get.

Most people seem to be forgetting this when recomending which version to buy.

Don't forget, you also should be able to use a 360 controller with the pc version.

PC all the way for mods alone

1920x1200 helps too
the op stated he has an x800xl, i dont think 1920x1200 is in the forecast for him if he gets the PC version.

to the op: like one person said already, main advantage of PC version is downloadable mods.
pc version: mouse/keyboard control(much better imo)
xbox version: graphically stable/smooth

you can save some money by getting the PC version but probably wont be able to run it at your monitors native res without turning down a lot of the eye candy.

I vote PC if only for the better controls.. I'd be so annoyed if I had to play it with that damn controller! Plus in time as we upgrade our rigs the game will eventually surpass the 360 in IQ

Go with the 360 version.

It depends on how important grass is. Turning grass off will almost double your framerate, enabling you to run the game at high res and settings and look as good or better than the 360 version. Personally I hate the grass, it gets in the way, so I turned it off, and in doing so allowed me to go from 800x600 no AA to 1280x1024 4x AA high quality settings with no noticeable difference in framerate. (I have a much worse computer than you do, FX5900xt and a 2ghz Athlon XP)

In addition, I would HATE to have to play this with a console controller, mouse and keyboard is a must. That and future downloadable mods would make the choice obvious, for me at least.

Get the 360 version now.

Mods take time to complete, in time the price of oblivion on the PC will drop tremendously. By the time the first wave of mods are out and polished you should be able to sell your copy on the 360 (if you want) and pick up the PC version for little or no extra cost. Also you might have updated you GPU by then which will help the graphics on the PC version.

As for someone complaining about playing on the 360 controller. You obviously have not played it with the 360 controller. The game controls beautifully. You can do anything you want with ease.

I have played it with both and Ill say it again, I couldn't stand playing it with the controller.

Or he could spend $50 now and not spend 60+ to buy the 360 version and then sell it to buy the PC version. His video card is fine for the game. When he upgrades, he upgrades.

Agreed. Buying a game twice is a waste of money, spend $50 for the PC version. If you're only concerned about visuals, get the 360 version since it will look a bit nicer than what your PC can do (for now). If you're concerned about everything else get the PC version. You can always upgrade anyway.

I got it for the PC because I like to play these kind of games with a mouse and a keyboard, and also it cost me 20 bucks less.

QFT

360 controls are excellent.

PC because in such a big game there will always be bugs. With the console you can get around most of them without starting over. Also there has already been graphics fixes to improve the visual quality on Oblivion. there is no doubt it looks better on a high end PC then a Xbox 360 but I guess X800XL is about where the 360 may show a better side :). But then with these mods already coming out you may be able to tweak your X800XL setup to look better since you have more control over the visuals in Oblivion.

But heck visuals is only visuals both is offering great visuals so that is not much of an argument. Then price is a bigger deal go with whats cheaper.

Mods though is a major deal already I feel. First thing I will do is run some of the new graphics fixes. Mostly that which are out already :)

I've played it on both and I like the controller just as much as the PC, maybe even more.

yea "to each his own", I have a 360 and have played several games on it and some work great with the controller and some feel horrible.. like playing PDZ I can't stand, or controlling any game in first person is a chore.. compared to a mouse/keyboard.. so again, I'm much happier with playing oblivion on the PC..

Id have to say the console version. I own it for pc right now but i believe im going to get the console version. The framerate and graphics are not good enough for me to fully enjoy this game, and as for controls I believe a controller is much more comfortable for the long run in gaming and a game like this will need it. I cant see why people would hate a controller for this game. I havent beaten it yet but i know this game will never stress a fast pinpoint reaction speed, I mean this isnt counterstrike.

My PC has a 7800GTX and I definitely prefer it to the 360 version (and yes, I've seen the 360 version in action.) The game is generally just smoother on the PC and the graphics look better with the potential to be far better with the next gen. of video cards.
