Alright, so we're looking to get a new computer for my father.

Our budget is $800 and it must include EVERYTHING, including LCD, Windows XP, M$ Office XP, and etc..

Anyone know of any prebuilt's perhaps?

Thanks.

Honestly you cant do this yourself? whats with all these people asking them to peice together their computers now.

www.newegg.com is where you go to buy
www.hardocp.com is where you go to see how good a part is

Now get some motovation and do it.

If you were asking me, i would say get a Athlon FX-55, whoops there you go, thats all you can afford.

If its for your dad, then he probably doesnt need any real performance besides being able to run Office & check email at the same time ;)

For that budget, just get a Dell, and get all the software you need from them if their bulk discounts are better than what you can get elsewhere.

I heard of these prebuilts called Dells, might wanna check them out.

Yeah, just get Dell. Can't be beat for economic systems, seeing how you basically get the Mouse, Keyboard, Monitor and OS for free. Then, if you are away, he still has tech support if he needs it.

EDIT: Yeah, just get a Dimension 3000 with the 2.8GHz P4. I configured one at $742 shipped with:

Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor (2.80GHz, 533 FSB)
Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition
512MB Dual Channel DDR SDRAM at 400MHz
Dell Quietkey Keyboard and Dell 2-button Scroll Mouse
17 inch E773 (16 inch viewable) Conventional CRT
Integrated Intel® Extreme Graphics 2
40GB Ultra ATA/100 7200RPM Hard Drive
No Floppy Drive Included
Integrated 10/100 Ethernet
56K PCI Data/Fax Modem
Single Drive: 16X CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) w/double layer write capability
Integrated Audio
Dell A215 Speakers
Microsoft Office Basic - Includes Outlook, Word, Excel
2Yr Ltd Warranty, 2Yr At-Home Service, and 2Yr Technical Support
Belkin SurgeMaster Gold - 9 Outlet with 10ft Cord

All that for $742. Good deal for sure. Sorry, but your not getting an LCD with an all-inclusive $800 budget.

Thank's sac_tagg for the only helpful post in this entire thread. Whatever happened to people being courteous and only replying if they had something helpful to say?

Seriously. I built my current rig from scratch, I know what I'm doing. But that's when I had my own budget and knew what I wanted.

I usually don't like pre-builts because most of them are limited when you want to upgrade later.

What about Small Form Factor's? What about the "Dell Outlet" (Are they worth it?)

I think its the general thought that you can do the simple task of picking out computer components on your own. Want hints tips tricks recomendations etc, ask. But to just actually come out and say: "Build me an $800 budget system" is not very kewl and rather presumptuous.

As far as building the system, Dude, yer gettin a Dell.
