well i finally got my white water block today..

it was great, even tho it didn't have brass or chrome fittings...

i hook it up.. and BAM! leak already...

lol

i tingle around a bit with it.. and i sort of switched the brass fittings off my Maze 3 and the old chipset block and made a zombie block...

anyways ofcourse the new fittings started to leak as soon as it set in...

so i bought some of those plumber's puddy and put it as a sealent around the fittings and so far.. there had been no leaks and it seems to be running very well...

my question to you intelligent people is..

has anybody done this before? and if so.. how is yours holding up?

i don't really care about anything in my pc but the 9800xt is going to be a bitch to replace ;)

so anyways.. yea.. anybody else ever take out the fittings and put something else on? and use some kinda sealent? what did YOU use?

thats the reason you test your shit for 24 hours before turning on the computer while its on...to test for leaks. shit leaks.

yea i know that's what i m sayin.. and tat's what i did....

which top did you have on the block? the acrylic or the aluminum?
if it was the acrylic...D-tek uses a SUPER soft poly carb that when any stress is put on the barbs it will crack...danger den uses a very hard lexan which is alot harder to crack than d-teks stuff....if you had the aluminum top you should have torqued the barbs down before putting it in your loop.
also ona side not who has the link to that site that is selling a pure copper top to the d-tek WW ??

hrm...ur WW didnt come with any fittings? Thats weird...mine came with chromed barbs, all sealed with O rings...

perhaps i wasn't very clear when i explained. :D

it came all fitted but it had a leak already

i tried to fix it but it only made matters worst.

i put Maze 3's brass fittings on them now and the only reason it leaks is becuz the damn plastic fittings widened my hose.

it's all good now i guess...

o btw. it was the aluminum top..

Widened your hose? Well march your butt down to the hardware store and pick up some screw-tightened clamps!

:)

Always take out barbs and tape them. Never trust what another has done when it comes to water and your pc.

That is no sh**. Just normal moving of the lines put a crack right down the middle of mine. Came home to a locked up computer with a gob of green gooey additives on top of a 9800Pro. I have ordered the Copper-top mentioned but they are Out-of-stock at the moment. * days and waiting for shipment.

I used poly top ONCE. IT actually melted! The water leaked down onto my 9800Pro, but I was kucky enough to have grease all over the back of it (using a tek on the gpu) so the water went into the AGP slot and jsut shorted my board. =)

In the past I always took pipe dope(or plumbers tape depending on where you are), and wrapped the threads on the barbs if the barbs and top of the block are metal. This will stop any leak there before it happens. I usually also take some aquarium sealant, and go around the edges of any joint aswell.

Plumber's putty is meant to seal drains, not pressurized water lines.

You might be able to get by with it since you are using relatively little pressure (unless you have a really restrive WB, or a really powerfull pump) but its not the smartest thing in the world to do.

well the thing says it never goes hard. never breaks aprt, never never blah blah blah

and can be used as a sealant.. so i m just goin to leave it on from now on..

seems to be workin great...

i higly recommend plumber's putty from Home Depot

my solution for leaky fittings is fairly straight forward...

First, I build a block out of solid copper plates (if your not the DIY type then just order a block made from copper)
Next, I get some nice and solid brass fittings.
Then, I coat the threads on the brass fittings and the threads on the top plate of the block with a very thin coat of Stay Silv flux (JB Harris makes it)
The block and fittings are then warmed up to where they look like this:

then I run around the edges where the threads meet the top plate with 15% silver brazing rods.
after it cools back down to room temp, I clean it up and polish it.

that should hold up to about 40,000psi. :D
