Need a full tower case for your next system build? The gang at Overclockers Club seem rather impressed with the NZXT Switch 810. Here's a quote from the full review to get you started:

It seems that the NZXT 810 is equal or better than the HAF 932 in every test other than one, in which it was only a single degree worse off. The hard drive temperatures are excellent thanks to the push/pull configuration through the hard drive cage, and the GPU temperatures are made superior by the extra fan(s) specifically to cool the GPU(s). As far as these numbers go, this should put the NZXT Switch 810 at the top of many competitors' lists."

I quite enjoy my Switch 810 :) Cant wait until after I move so I can start filling it with water cooling.

The only thing that is iffy it the glossy coating and not too much of a fan of stealth drives. Other than that, it looks damn good. I wonder how good the plastic is though.

Still wondering if there is anything better (for the money/around the same cost as my case) than the Trooper. But to each their own. This is up there, but the huge amount on plastic is meh...

the plastic is high quality. same stuff as the plastic on the Cosmos II.
I own the switch, and can tell you it's high quality, solid stuff. I'm betting I can nearly knock out my brother if I hit him in the head with the top vent part

Check it out guys - new gunmetal edition available.

I like this a lot. The white one looks dang hot, but I seriously wonder if it will stand the test of time. The regular piano black looks good, but I feel like the high gloss makes it look cheap. I'm going to be in the market for a case soon, and I expect it to last 10 years or so. I keep hearing the quality of the Switch 810 is great, and now with the new gunmetal edition... I think this just might be it.

Yeah, I love NZXT stuff, they have always been good to me, so I try and be good to them as well. I love the gunmetal though, especially since it won't be so glossy like the black fingerprint magnet one...

Does anybody know if you can install a dual-bay device in the bottom two 5.25" bays in this case? I.e. does the hot swap bay work as a standard bay too?

I'm just not a fan of the switch, I think it is pretty ugly, but I'm definitely in the minority. After my experience with the Phantom, if I ever buy a new case again, it will be a NZXT case.

I absolutely love my Switch 810, but I'm gonna switch out (get it?) my Black Gloss for a gunmetal version. I bought my S810 on Newegg prior to being hired on, so no biased here. There's a few qualms, but no case is perfect... well, maybe the Murderbox MKII, but let's face it, that's about the only perfect case ever made.

XNine, can you tell us anything about NZXT's refurb units?

Indeed I can. Refurbished cases are typically units that were shipped and damaged, or returned to us with damage. If the damage is minimal and can be taken care of by replacing parts to make the unit to factory standard, then it's done so. This is typically done with dents, scratches, broken pieces, etc.

If say, a case was mangled, then we of course wouldn't be able to sell it since nothing would fit or line up properly. lol.

Curious, is it possible to compare the quality of the plastic to some other case? I ask because I know some of the plastic is pretty high quality on my Storm Trooper, but when I got it, a few of the hooks that held on the face of the case broke off (super glued back on and good now, even have a spare one from CM). I'm sure it's a hard question to gauge.

I have been interested in this case for a while, and I just went to frys to check it out first hand. The black parts are very high quality, although they might be steel with a coating. The coating feels a little like rubber... its very similar to the storm troopers finish on the front, if that makes any sense. Regarding the plastic, the dust filters, drive bay covers, and top louver are all completely plastic. They are a little flimsy... I would have liked to see a metal louver on the top, and perhaps a metal front panel on the front dust filter, but they work fine, and I felt (like many of the other reviews I read) that they weren't going to snap, so there's definitely some durability there. The top louver, being such a long part, could bend somewhat... you wouldn't want to sit on it.

If you're going to have this case for a long time, I would be careful with the "click-release" mechanisms. They are plastic as well, and a lot of the displays with this feature were broken or not working properly. Granted, store displays take a lot of abuse in every sense of the word. The click release on the top louver was the worst... there are two connectors that need to be lined up perfectly, which can be a small challenge due to the flex in the top panel.

Overall, I think NZXT cut corners in appropriate places to keep this $170 case from being a $300 case. The issues above are minor, but it you're picky, you'll have to live with them. This case is still on the top of my list, however.

I'm not so sure the design team "cut corners," so to speak. To keep the chassis at the 170 mark, certain things had to happen. The use of Steel and Plastic were used instead of aluminum (put this case around 3-350 bucks if it were aluminum).

It's also a brand new design and direction for the company, and the success of this case could very well spawn other ideas, revisions, etc. It's hard to say and unfortunately I don't have a crystal ball.

I bought mine from newegg prior to working for NZXT, and to be honest, I think it's one of the best cases I've ever worked with. I do have some small complaints, but no case, especially mass-production cases, are going to be perfect for EVERYONE. Personally I think the chassis has a lot of pros going for it, especially at the price.

Was looking at that, but there seems to problem with color matching of the metal and plastic http://www.overclock3d.net/articles/cases_cooling/nzxt_switch_810_special_edition_video/1

Wow, he really did not like the matte black at all. Looks like the issues on the gunmetal one are almost negligible though. I wouldn't think twice about it. With the matte black though, he's right - the metal to plastic paint jobs are like the difference between satin and matte finishes. This would bug me a little bit, but you could have this with any case really - it's very hard to match a powder coat on the metal with whatever other kind of paint they use on plastic. You have to remember though that the faces that are different in material are all on different planes, i.e. they would catch the light differently, which would make them look like different colors anyway depending on the lighting in your room. Honestly, I would notice it if it was on my desk. Would I care... maybe a little, but not really...

I'd also like to sum up the changes here in one place. It seems different reviewers catch different things:

1. Updated hard drive caddies - removed one support bar so you can now use power / sata cables with 90 degree bends on 2.5" drives
2. Cut holes in the roof of the riveted optical drive bay so as to allow more airflow for top-mounted radiators in the foremost fan mount
3. Anything else?

Lastly, did anyone notice the gloss black version is $145 with FS on Amazon!? Check it.

Anyone else notice that NZXTs motto is VERY poorly worded?

Unique, Unprecendented, Inspired.

The first two start with Un, and the last one if you add Un too makes it the complete opposite of what they ment to say. Someone needs to be fired in the PR department.

That being said, I really don't like the Switch. It looks too normal to be an NZXT case. They've always been very edgy and different with their design. The switch just looks boring to me.

Haha, I think it looks too aggressive. Just goes to show everyone's got their own tastes. I know what you're saying about the company "image" or "style," but frankly, I don't care about the name on the case. As long as it meets my needs, fits my style, and is of good quality, I'll be all over it. I don't care much for NZXT's general styling - I much prefer the look of Lian-Li cases - but the Switch is modest enough that I could live with it. It has so many more features to make up for this one drawback for me.
