I've been looking at this case for my next build. First I have a few questions regarding current owners and those more experienced in modern cases in general.

1. Aluminum
While Generally This is considered a good thing, My current case is an aluminum Antec Super Lanboy. The side panels on my current case are extremely flimsy. How do the side panels on this hold up?

2. Windowed Side Panel
I'm wanting to cut a kind of "L" Shaped side panel window with frosted edges a la the roccat packaging theme. ( Edges of window are frosted ) I am also planning on powdercoating the inside white with a texture like frost. Will Cutting the window compromise the already questionable structural integrity of the case? (aluminum + mesh makes me question it ) Also how much do you think it would cost to have the case cut? and how should I fix the acryllic on the case?

3. 190mm Fans
I originally liked the idea of 190mm fans. Larger fans= slower speed= better airflow with less noise. But after reading some reviews the general consensus is the fans are quite loud. Does any company currently make a quieter version of these fans? I am looking for a more quiet case than my current one. ( of course I am running an extra thick panaflo on my ninja at the moment, that thing is LOUD!)

4. Watercooling
I have yet to watercool a case and I am wanting to externally mount a radiator to the back of the case. Do they make a White Radiator? I'm also wanting to run some tubing on the outside of the case if I decide to mount the radiator on the inside. (two straight lines on the back of the case from the top to the bottom) Would a radiator mount easily to the back of the case?

I don't think I've seen anybody on [H] that has this case. It's pretty cool. If it was available for sale and I could have found it on newegg or something a few weeks ago, I might have considered it.
 
Do a search there is someone that has it with the H50 cooler and it is a very cool setup.

I almost went with this case for my new build but heard to many bad things about how loud the fans are and the case is very tight and having to removed the PSU every time you want to work inside the case.

Just reviews I read/watched, but very much considered this case.
 
I checked out the H50. Easy to use but not the look or performance im looking for. I'm really interested in what would be the best and cheapest way to cut the side window and mount and frost the edges of the acrylic If anyone can help with that I'd like to know.

Pretty much the deal breaker for me would be if the sides were too flimsy
 
Don't know if a window would be worth it on this case... the psu would be covering the better half of the window ;)
BUT if you do want a window, there are tons of Youtubes and write ups around the internet on how to properly put in a window and make it look "professional"

and what kind of performance are you looking for?

I have my 920 @ 4.2Ghz @ 67c loaded on my H50

but if you are going for looks then you will want a full system with colors and UVs :rolleyes:

I don't do windows ;)

that case would be really tight with a full size water cooling system, it is possible for sure but going to be tight, with the removable motherboard tray that will make it much easier
 
I'm not one for tons of colors, lights, ect. I just have this awesome Idea in my head to make the inside ( and Back of MOBO tray ) a textured white, With A white external Radiator and light blue coolant.

The window will be an L-Shaped window that goes over the top of the PSU pretty much just showing the processor and memory along with the WC lines.

as for space. the res will be a res+pump combo in 2 5.25 bays, the rad will be external, the only thing actually in the case itself will be the lines
 
I say go for it, sounds like a very good idea and think it will look good.

When you get started post it up in the work log threads :D

1) The panels are quite slim, but they are pretty sturdy, no noticeable warp under pressure. However, the panels did come very very slightly bent in the box, not sure if that is qc, or just the shipping stress.

2) I was going to do a window, because I had planned on moving to watercooling, but I decided not to because the view I would have would be quite obstructed. Keep in mind with this case that wire management can be an issue, and as an earlier poster said, the PSU covers a large amount of the side window. I think the structural integrity is fine, the case is really quite sturdy with no give, the mesh is really solid. I had a guy quote me on a custom installed smoke acrylic panel, he said it would be $40-$45 with shipping. (This is what it looks like once you assemble everything inside: http://www.hitechlegion.com/images/stories/panzer/42.jpg you can kinda see what it would look like if you cut a window)

3) Yes, the fans are LOUD. Quite unbearable for me actually, I slapped some adapters on them to lower the voltage, and now they are whisper quiet. Don't know of any other 190mm fans.

4) Although I haven't done it myself, I'm sure external watercooling mounting will be fine. After all, it was designed with 2 rad holes in the back. However, the motherboard tray is slightly recessed, so I'm not sure if it would be a little harder to mount because of that. As I'm sure you're aware, the top 190mm fan can be removed to fit a 2 x 120mm rad there, that might be another option if you can't do it externally.
 
I built my last computer using this case. It is great for cooling. A bit loud, but I have a fan bus in mine to reduce the fan speed of the 2 big fans in the case. Here is my gallery from then.

Nvidia 295 GTX

Whisper quiet too boot.

I like the case overall. Can't hide wires like you can on the antec P180 series, or many of the lian li and silverstone cases.

I love however that this case is very hard to scratch. It has a great paint job. I have been to 10 lan parties so far and no damage has been done. Also it is super wide, I think that goes without saying, but I mean it, this case is super wide.

1. Thanks that makes me feel better about the build quality!

2. Once again it makes me feel better. Since the window will only be covering the top portion ( your coolermaster V8) I think the window will be fine. Thanks for the quoted price.

3. Where did you get the adapters?

4. If I don't do external ( Which I really Want to...) I would probably cut the noise down if I took out the top 190 and replaced it with a 240 rad. I think my temps would be higher in that config though

Also: A system-builder friend of mine is worried about the PSU's proximity to the video cards. More specifically the temps. I just waived it off due to the increased fan size. How are your Video Card temps holding up? I may, May not watercool the vid cards.

On a Related note, what are the clearances for the videocards in the cases? would I be able to fit a 5870 or higher?

I have heard you can fit the 5970 in that case but you have to remove the lower hard drive bay.

So yes you should have no problem with a 5870

Oh and if you looked at his pictures he has a 295 and those are just as or longer then the 5870s

I dont have a personal feedback on the PSU making the video card hot... but I dont think it will because the fan on the PSU is puching the hot air out of the case not into the case
So if anything I would be more worried about the GPU heating up the PSU
 
Well, you might want to check your motherboard's bios options for fan controlling first, but I picked up these http://www.svc.com/fsa-75.html which I run on the 5V setting. Video card temps seem fine, like nickbaldwin86 said, the PSU exhausts out of the case. Also, since I removed the lower HDD cage, the front intake fan gets air circulating around that area. I don't think you will have a problem with a 5970 in this case.

BTW- sorry to mislead you haha that pic I linked to isn't mine, just a random pic I found when looking for ways people did cable management in this case.
