NWN2 and Crossfire

I'm pretty noobish with computers and new to Crossfire. I just bought a new system to play Neverwinter Nights 2 (NWN2)

*E6700
*2 x HIS ATI x1950XTX in Crossfire
*P5W DH Deluxe
*Creative X-Fi

NWN2 JUST came out. Do I need to do some special trick to make Crossfire actually work with it like create some kind of profile etc...?

As long as your mobo is crossfire, and you connect the dongle, it should do it on the hardware level. It should work right out of the box (with the drivers, of course).

X1950 XTX's require a master card and a normal x1950 XTX. Just want to make sure you realize this. Though it is rumored that the 1950 xtx is the last high end ATI card that will require this.

MY Crossfire works fine - I have the master etc...

However, my understanding is that with games that are released AFTER the latest drivers, sometimes you need to rename the .exe file on the game to that of another game that the drivers have a crossfire profile for to get Alternate Frame Rendering performance. Then you can stop doing that once newer drivers come out that have a profile for them.

With nVidia you can manually create SLI profiles but not with crossfire I hear. BuT i alos heard that maybe this is only for OpenGL games and that for Directx Games like NWN 2 Crossfire will work automatically in AFR no matter how new the game is. I also heard something about setting CCC AI to High or something to have Crossfire automatically go into AFR for DirectX games newer than the latest drivers (i.e. having no profile in the driver set yet).

So I am a bit confused. SLI users are having TONS of problems with NWN2 right now and it wont use the second card until they manually create a profile, disable vsynch, and disable in-game shadows etc... for some reason. But no one is talking about Crossfire on NWN2 forums and I cannot post until I get my CD Key and register it (game coming soon but I want to be ready).

Any help would be great.

once you get it then screw around with it till it works or wait a couple of weeks for the game to be patched.

Isnt the crossfire profile contained in the ATI drivers - not a game patch? So won't I have to wait until the next CATs for my drivers to have a custom NWN2 profile?

just change your catalyst AI slider to the advanced position and you will get AFR rendering for games without a profile.

if I do that with Cat 6.10s and force AFR, is there still any advantage to renaming the .exe to something with an ATI AFR Crossfire profile like Fear.exe etc...

Is forced AFR as good as having a true optimized AFR profile in the drivers? Will I get better performance when the next drivers come out and there is a real NWN2 profile?

Scroll down to the Neverwinter Nights 2 entry. It is near the bottom of the file and it looks like this:

[4942]
LongName=Neverwinter Nights 2
ShortName=nwn2
LauncherDirKey=HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Obsidian\NWN 2\Neverwinter\Location
LauncherExe=nwn2main.exe
Launch=%UA_LAUNCHER_EXE_PATH% %UA_LAUNCHER_EXTRA_ARGS% %UA_LAUNCHER_NETWORK_ARGS% %UA_LAUNCHER_PASSWORD_ARGS%
InGameRenderer=D3D9
InGameFlags=USE_DINPUT1

You need to slightly modify the entry, and that should hasten your frame by a sizeable margin. You need to add "|DISABLE_RELEASE" to the end of the line that begins with "InGameFlags=". Once you've accomplished this, your entry should look like what is listed below:

[4942]
LongName=Neverwinter Nights 2
ShortName=nwn2
LauncherDirKey=HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Obsidian\NWN 2\Neverwinter\Location
LauncherExe=nwn2main.exe
Launch=%UA_LAUNCHER_EXE_PATH% %UA_LAUNCHER_EXTRA_ARGS% %UA_LAUNCHER_NETWORK_ARGS% %UA_LAUNCHER_PASSWORD_ARGS%
InGameRenderer=D3D9
InGameFlags=USE_DINPUT1|DISABLE_RELEASE

After you've done this, save the file. Now go back to Xfire and click Tools>Options>Games. Just going to the games tab will force Xfire to reload the games.ini and update your XIG support for NWN2 with the info you added. This should work, Bazman, the xfire forum admin, came up with this solution.

Confusion lol

I am talking about CROSSFIRE eg. two GPUs - not the X-fire messaging system. I didn't even install that.
