Nvidia's Best Line Ever?

I must give praise to Nvidia this go around as the 6800s has to be their best line ever. Many exceptional grades to choose from and a $200 LE model that blows away the last generations top cards. I guess Nvidia learned their lesson from the FX series and put their asses into high gear.

This isn't anti-ATI as I think their high-end cards are great but their low end is rather lacking.

But neither gets points for their lack of meeting demands.

I think both lines are to be applauded.

As this is the first line up (from both camps) to actually make good on doubling performance (atleast by 3DMark03 scores).

i agree this is a great improvement from the bad shaders of NV3x, and performance. plus i think they got the market with the new technology. and if anyone flames in this topic they were looking for it because there is nothing saying anything bad about ati

Id say there best line was the gef 4 series. Good ranging, superb performance, and able to meet supply to demand.

Not to say that this 6th generation is bad. Its very nice to see them return back to glory after the stubled and fell with the 5th generation.

Tied with GF4 line. The 6800s would be in the lead if they were readily available...

i would have to agree as well. I jumped to ATI after the whole 5800 stuff and I am getting a bfg 6800gt now. I like both companies but Nvidia has got my attention this go around with the awesome 6800gt

It could be, but i'd wait longer than a month from first (consumer) availability to make that judgement. :p

I think this thread has the record number of posts of this nature before going up in flames. Well done! :D I also agree on this. I loved the Ti-4600, then switched to a 9700 Pro then 9800 Pro, and now I've got a 6800GTOC. (Though I did have an X800 Pro for a couple weeks.) The X800 Pro actually ran a few things faster, but they're fairly even, and since I have a lot of OpenGL stuff (games and apps,) the 6800GTOC is a lot more useful to me right now. Nice job from both companies.

Ditto my friend. The X800 Pro isn't a bad card by any means, but I have my 6800GT now and I need to ship my X800 this evening to the gentleman who bought it off of ebay.

More on topic, the GT is quite a card. It just might be better than my Ti4400 was in its day.

Definitly, solid performance all the way around even on the lower end cards. What more can ya ask for?

Well availability hehe

Availability isn't bad....on the mainstream parts.

There are 6800NUs and X800 Pros *all over the place*. Nice ones, too, I just ordered myself a dual-DVI solution.

And, I think this compares very well with the GF4 series.
Ti4200 = 6800NU -> Widely available
Ti4400 = 6800GT -> Pretty rare
Ti4600 = 6800U -> Incredible rare for now, but will become more and more mainstream

Or does nobody remember trying to buy a Ti4400 at launch? Prices were *sky high* (compared to MSRP) and nobody seemed to have them in stock for a few months.

I'd suspect by fall, this will all be resolved, and the 6800s will be looked at as the return of the GF4 days for nVidia.

Another vote for the GF4 line....I have a 6800 GT that is great but it remains to be seen if this card has the lifespan of the famous Ti4200. A lot of people are still using those workhorses today but they are close to the end of their lifespan now. Software is catching up to hardware faster than it ever has so I can't see the 6800/X800 still being viable 2-3 years from now..

I think their best release was the TNT2, it made people realize that 3dfx had real competition. That was the card they began to take market share with and started the reign that ended with the 5800 debacle. The 6800 hands down gets the comeback crown tho.

I think the 6800 is definately Nvidias greatest series. After spending as much money as they did on R&D you would hope they would come out with a good product. :p Either way ATI, or Nvidia your not going to be disappointed.
