Nvidia VS Ati

Do you realize buying a purchase plan on the videocard gives you store credit when you break the card from ocing and you can put the full price towards your next video card?

Nvidia is better than ATI by default. the reset, cleared CMOS, the default is Nvidia is listed under the better cards.
 
This a stupid argument IMO, I tend to like Nvidia better as of now, to me they're actually trying. Overall they're equal, but some ATI !!!!!!s are driving me crazy I've noticed this trend

ATI announces AMR - "Oh it's going to be soooo good, ATI is awesome."

2. ATi has been milking ArtX's R300 core forever - "ATi makes better cards than Nvidia, Nvidia is teh suxxorrsz" They've been riding on the success of that R300 core forever, when their new 5 series core comes out, then I'll pass final judgement.

3. Nvidia uses dual slot cooling - "Nvidia cards are volcanos they run so hotttzzrsz so they need dual slot, ATi is bettaaa!!"
ATI uses dual slot cooling - "My card runs soo much cooler now, ATi is genius thank goddzoros for dual slot cooling!!"

I openly accept dual slot cooling by the way, as long as its in the form of my NV Silencer5 :cool:

Go with the 6600gt, go to pricewatch and look for the cheapest one you can find, but if there is an x700pro for a noticable margin less (30+) than get that.

Remember to use resellerratings on all sites you are interested in.

1)I still dont think SLI or AMR is that great. The FPS gain is not worth the cost of it. I would prefer a single card with a good ram+ proc, then dual cards and bad ram and proc.

2)You still forget that, even if they do use old tech, the tech is still fast. and well implemented.

3) wow thats just stupid. Im sure every single ATI wanted ATI to do dual slot cooling. I always envied the Ultras dual slot cooler. ALso, you do have to admit the yes, the ultras do run hot, and do use alot of PSU Power.

4) 2.0 and 3.0 are completely diffrent. 2.0 was actually new features, new ways to render things and new effects, 3.0 is just a slightly faster way to use it. THe reason why ATI decided not to waste time implementing it, was because for current games it is useless, By the time games come out that utilise it to full extent, both current ATI and Nvidia cards will not be able to render all the effects (the Developers of AOE3, the first game to utilise that tech extensively, have saidthis themselves.)

And the X800's don't run hot? Try telling that to the finger that touched my X800's heatsink :p

And the reason they didn't add SM3.0 to the X800's is because its an extension of the R300 Core. It would have taken too much time to implement SM3.0 and they would not have been able to release the cards at roughly the same time period as the 6 Series.

And before I get labelled as a fan boy.. I use an X800 :D

True, but unfortunately you are not the representative for the ATi !!!!!! camp, if more people were like you, there would be less bickering about stupid stuff.

Not arguing against that, I just hate the !!!!!!s who think ATi is a better company @ building graphics cards.....when they've barely "built" any since the ArttX takeover

Again, you do not speak for the entire Ati !!!!!! community, before I joined these boards, I've read alot of people bashing Nvidia because they needed dual slot to cool their graphics cards.

No they decided not to "waste" time because the X800 series is an extension of the R300 core, and putting SM3.0 would have taken too long

Yeah man i agree with you, having SLI enable is not worth the money, you won't gain much wif SLI enabled, but i as i said before, i am just comparing the 6600GT and the X700pro, so i can see which one is the overall winner, even though i saw the benchmark, i want to get the users personal opinions.

You're right, a 50-80% gain in framrates in real world applications and games isn't gaining much :rolleyes:
 
If real world apps also include word/excel and othr productivity apps then i think SLI is overkill. No one needs SLI for regular apps of ANY kind, just gaming. So if you mean by "real world apps" .. <gaming only> then i agree, but usually the percentile of advantage in frames is much less than even your lowest figure (50%). Depends on the platform and ATI card used in comparison.

By real world apps I meant CAD and 3D Modelling. I'm already deploying SLI workstations for some of the engineers that my organization supports.

Point taken. It would be good for CAD/3DM. I would think though that because it's still an early adopters platform any department head would think twice about the overall stability issues when implementing it. But i think it would be great for some test units before a more full scale implementation to see if the cost/benefit ratio would be feasible for multiplicities sake (you may have done that already i'm sure as well). I can understand the ebullience with regards to the potential use for the aforementioned tasks. It's just that at this point it would seem a tad superfluous until the bugs with SLI are worked out. I'm guessing that nearly all CAD-Autocad is compliable with the SLI platform? And shows subtantial benefit with said platform on task?

Not using 6600gts or even 6800s I hope, cause that wouldn't make much sense. I would take a single quadro or fire GL over dual gaming cards.

Quadros are supported in SLI, but of course you must have known that since you asked the question as to whether we were using them or not ;)
 
I am a drafter myself , but i wanted to know if using a 6800 Ultra pci e by itself is much more diff. than 2 in sli mode.. i would love faster rendering in some 3d appzObviously more ram helps but if i want a good rig, for these appz, should i just stick with 1 6800 nu.. or go with 2? anyone have any results?

It depends on if your application is supported. If it works with SLI then you'll see gains in performance.
 
Yeah SLi has it advantages in games, but the question is it really worth the money.... would you pay for extra card when you game once in a while and the rest you doing video editing and etc.....

And to add to that, ATi has said that its higher end X8x0 cards will be AMR compatible. ATM, NVidia doesn't support ALL games with its SLI option... so that extra card will just be a useless space heater...

What does the type of cards that will be supported have to do with software compatability? We'll have to wait and see if AMR woks with all games and applications; the odds are it will not, at least not at first.

SLi duplicates memory on both SLi texture caches (memory), thus when a heavy hitting DX9++ game comes around with D3'esque ultra high quality memory requirements after hiking up the res with eye candy... your setup will be hurting.

But then again, strictly ATM 6600GTs are good performers.. so if you're strapped for cash like most of us they would make a decent upgrade path to stretch out the $400 hit.
 
Another vote for the 6600GT.

and for the thread starter, the '6/11 wins for 66GT' benchies u saw in one review is actually not completely indicative of the 6600GT's general performance advantage. Its generally faster in direct3d, and in OpenGL its much faster.

And most 6600GT's overclock brilliantly, better than the x700's, are usually cooler running than x700pros.

6600GT's are cheaper too. :D
 
I ran two in sli and they rocked. The only limiting factor was the 128 meg. I realy missed dialing up everything full tilt like I had done on my AGP Ultra. Its good to be back to the Ultras but I must say that even a single card was more than enough to handle CS for example @ 1280 x 1040 . The 6600gt currently can be had at around $150 to $200 depending on how aggressive a shopper you are. The price performance ratio is tough to beat for this powerfull dual head card. I remember dropping over $400 on an Asus 9800Xt that was not as powerfull.

Yeah....the 6600GT owns, i really wished that the 6600GT come in a 256mb model, but overall my opinion on this card is that it worth every dollar although i got the turbo edition it is nothing more then an overclocked version, but its nice, here in australia i am got the 6600GT turbo edition for $360 and the normal 6600GT was $330 anyways what is the max i can overclocked my 6600Gt turbo edition to with out having artifacts and also safest while playing doom3 and HL2?
 
heard the x700 was canned by ATI . forgot where but it did due to nvidia's better budget and better performing 6600gt.. will try and find link later anyways, So does anyone know about SLI supporting other appz other than games. such as CAD , or Solid works or what not.. thx

they have quadro cards with 512mb of ram capable of SLI... so i would assume they would support professional graphics in that mode. its my guess nvidia would have to make some sort of profile for the program though.
 
Well what can i say both Nvidia and Ati make awesome cards, but only if the X700pro has the core speed of the 6600GT, the X700pro would own big due to its vertex pipeline
