Nvidia VS Ati

This instantly made you 100% less credible. Considering you had to stoop to personal sissy disses, rather then actually stating some Nfo

Yes prescotts are hott. Obsenely hot infact. My dads work rig is a P4. 3.2 gghz, Hes actually had it shut down itself, with the stock cooling, just beause of heat.

The problem is intel just tried for more and more mhz, they ignored the heat problem, now they have to create a whole new form factor standard, just to compansate.

I typed that up because he was acting like an idiot. Here where's your proof "HAHAHA" Freaking stupid if you ask me. L8tr gotta goto gym.

I guess you mindlessly insulting people without facts (i used an anecdotal example, which is way better than your garbage) is better?

I don't mean to be an ass :p, but Marvelous sounds like one of those Nvidia guys who still like to bitch about ATi drivers being "shitty" even tho the Rage Pro is long gone.:D

Still waiting on those links to your "USB problems", Marvelous. Remember, FUD is not acceptable as fact, even if you have yoga classes at the gymn....

I just had to chime in because I just built my first AMD 64 setup and was blown away on the quality AMD has now.

Its night and day compaired to there athlons.I Crushed my first athlon when putting on the hs.And burned my second chip from the hs not on right and the case moving.

you cant mess up installing a 64.AMD did this chip perfect.

You've been in the industry since 1989 and...

1) You haven't learned how to install a heatsink without breaking several AMD CPU's.
2) You have no clue that AMD has steadily climbed up the desktop and corporate ladders for years. (You do not read the business section of any newspaper before making bold statements about corporate trends.)
3) Failed to realize that Intel has been trying to catch up on the Power Management and thermal solutions because AMD is the recognized leader in this area. (not just in the tech geek world but also in the corporate and environmental realms).

"U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Honors AMD with ENERGY STAR Certificate for Innovative Cool'n'Quiet Technology"
http://biz.yahoo.com/bw/050316/156219_1.html

"The Prescott core's high thermals have been an issue for many months now, and Intel was finally forced to take action over the criticism they have received." THG (Intel lovers)

Nothing wrong with liking Intel. I've always liked Intel and still do. 90% of my computers have been pushed with Intel CPU's, but not based on make-believe statements.

Marvelous proven wrong on about 8 accounts, gets slammed by a dozen different, more experienced users, then conveniently rushes off to the "gym" close to midnight (is this make-believe too?).

We can get back to the 6600GT vs x700 pro topic now :)

With the x700xt cancelled for a long time now, I can't see a very bright future for the x700 series.

I have a x700 pro that I got from newegg refurb for 140.For that price the 6600 gt slight performance in games wasnt worth the extra money.

I got close to 23k 3d01 with the x700 so its not that bad of a card once you overclock it.

I was under the impression that the X600 / X700 series are only rebadged 9600 / 9800 cards?

Feel free to correct if wrong!

The refurb still overclocked well? That's good to know. I thought refurb was just a cesspool of hardware that didnt meet the specs that the consumer set rather than the manufacturer :p

X600 = 9600
X700 = Crippled X800

The 9800 have 256bit memory controller.

The x700 is the same chip as the x800 only with 128bit memory controller and 8 pipes instead of 16.

The x700 also supports all the features the x800's do so I think its just a crippled down x800.

The X700pro you got is it a 128mb or a 256mb one....... and if i do get a X700pro 256b which manufacturer should i get it from giga-byte or asus?

X600 = 9600
X700 = Crippled X800

Yea I was suprised that it came with the box, manual, cables, and drivers.

I got the mem to 470 from 432 and the core to 460 ish(still messing with it)from 425

I got the sapphire hybrid x700pro 256mb from newegg.

If your going to get one get the sapphire one it has 1.2ns memory so it will clock good.Im not sure if the others have the same memory

Guys it is an issue for USB when 15-20% of your CPU cycles are use when using USB compared to 2-5% on intel processors. I read that on Tech Report. Benchmarks shows this. I don't feel like searching for it right now cause I need to goto the gym. But it's at tech report if you want to search.

Well... lets see, I'm using my MX1000 (USB) on my athlon 64.. and task manager read anywhere from 0%-4%.

Oh yeah ! My refurb FX53 did 2.8 on chilled water and my refurb X800 Pro does 580/600 on stock cooling and no vmods.. '05 for the X800 and '01 for the FX53 :D

Thanks for the correction on the X700, btw. Knowledge is a sweet thing :)

Just to be clear, SM3.0 is useless, by the time it is used (properly) an 6600GT will be to slow to support the games that it is used in.

(Except for Chaos theory, but that was because the dev decided to be assholes and only allo 3.0 or 1.0)
You are so correct about SM 3.0 being so useless and slow. I remember how terribly slow he 9700 series handled PS 2.0 being the first PS 2.0 card in the market and all.

swatX said:
really so why is ATI going the sm 3.0 route? is it because its useless? i am sure when ATI gets the r520 out probably all the fanATIcs will cheer for ati releasing r520 with sm 3.0 support.

anywas my vote goes to 6600gt because its beats x700series and a vanilla x800
It's useless till ATI supports PS 3.0, Dual slot cooling is useless till ATI supports and HDR is useless till ATI supports it to sum it up.

Well this card is closely matched, through benchmark, the 6600Gt win 6/11 benchmark while X700pro win the other 5,, the X700pro makes a great come back at higher resolution while the 6600Gt drops.

Yeah, you're right, there is much higher CPU utilization. The problem with your argument however, is that it's invisible to the user and AMD's still outperform intel chips in higher price points in games, in spite of this "handicap." Explain that one.

And for the record, I don't disrespect you for working out. I think that's a good thing.

jesus this isnt a nvidia vs ati thread. its a my penis is bigger because i use this thread.

Choice between 700 and 6600GT? Get the GT
/thread

I just want to say one thing before I go.
Why is the whole price thing coming up with the X800XL is too high a price to compete with the 6600gt? I mean you guys compared SLI to X800XTPEs didnt you? is 1000 Dollars close enough to 400 for those two cards two compete. Listen I do agree though the 6600GT is a lot lower Midrange compared to a X800XL and they should not be compared but please dont be hypocrites. Agian my vote goes to the 6600GT.
Also about the 9700 series they were so fast in every game that PS2.0 was just an added bonus, their was not another card around to compete for a while. With the 6800s their are so you cant just say PS3.0 and win an argument. I did bring up that 9700PS2.0 problem earlier if you care to read back around pages 1, and 3.

Here we go again.

THATS NOT AN AMD CHIPSET.
That is a pos via kt800.

Why dont you find a test with a REAL AMD 2000 dollar Motherboard and see how well the AMD chipset runs.

Never mind Ill sum it up for you

AMD IS SHITTING ON INTEL RIGHT NOW IN THE HIGH END.There technology blows intels away period. Now go burn your house up with that pos 5 million kazzlion shitzillian mhz p4.

maybe read some new reviews with some more matured drivers ?

i guess your next rig will be an amd/nforce system so you dont have to live with all that mouse stutter

but if I/O performance is importent to you, you should really look into an amd/ati xpress combo.

I answer the ATI Vs Nvidia question the same every time:
Whichever performs better. Look @ benchmarks, get the hard numbers, talk to non-ati/nvidia f4nb0ys. IMO I think people will be happy if they buy a 6800U or a X800XTPE.

I think that any thread entitled 'NVidia vs ATI' or 'AMD vs Intel' needs to be immediately locked, because as we have seen here all it does is bring out the fan bois on each side of the aisle. Both sides display their ignorance yet still seem to think they somehow are winning the arguement.

The problem is (And I am probably going to be banned for this) the mods here suck. Even if a topic becomes a flame war by page 2, the mods will keep it going untill it is 11 pages long, sometimes they dont even lock a flaming thread,,

Well, being a moderator elsewhere on a rather busy car forum, I can say that a) it's not as easy as it might seem and b) it's a volunteer job that is often a thankless one. I don't presume to judge the moderation of other forums.

Also, isnt the 6600GT''s price at compusa 250? For 50 bucks more u could get an x800xl.

Anyone buying from CompUSA on component parts is wasting their money, you can save a lot from other vendors online. Newegg has been fantastic for me. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-127-147&depa=1

$182.00. You can get eVGA's product for $179.00

This is the awesome MSI part that includes a great software bundle and overclocks great with their good stock cooling solution.

I've owned both ATI Radeon and nVIDIA products, currently I'm using a 6600GT PCIe solution along with an SLI capable rig, 'nough said. Seriously though, both an X700 and a 6600GT are better than previous products, it's just the GeForce6 series are significantly better than previous nVIDIA boards by a big boost.

The question will be how easily each others products can move into a "multi-GPU" setup. That question won't be fully answered until ATI's solution is on the market and being compaired to nVIDIA's nForce4 SLI solutions.

As it currently stands, I can purchase another MSI 6600GT PCIe board, slap it into my MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI and receive a nice boost, especially with the SLI profile editors that are out now for legacy games.

I was trying to capture the Intel vs. AMD chain in the quote above. Seems that all of the SuperComputer makers are AMD opteron supporters. These are for solid $150,000 + servers, noobs.

http://www.cray.com/ Check our their XD1 system. If AMD were crap, how come Cray, HP and many others all have their "ultra deluxe" servers using that instead of pukeON (XEON)?

Sure stand alone or dual proc solutions for small to mid range are still XEON dominated, but that's rapidly changing. Check out HP's mid-range solution that's opteron based (just not 32 procs or more like a Supercomputer) http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/proliantdl585/index.html

So the real issue is for the mobo chipset vendors to step to the plate and provide the same level of quality that 24x7 enterprises expect for their systems. I think we are getting there slowly, but even desktop Intel systems are not stable enough in my opinion.

Let's hold VIA, nVIDIA, SIS and the other chipset vendors and Mobo manufacturers to give us solid quality components regardless of the proc in use. But the AMD 64 technology itself is solid and is capable of giving us more if the other parts vendors would step up to the plate with solid gear to go with it.
