I'm probably going to build a new computer come this summer, and I have an old GeForce4 440 MX in my current computer. Since Radeon 9800 Pros are so expensive, I was gonna hold off and use my current video card for my new computer until I can afford a 9800 Pro.

I got to wondering about differece in drivers. Would it be better not to run my new computer until I put the video card in it that I'll keep, or is it fairly easy to completely erase all the nVidia drivers before installing a Radeon?

It is fairly easy really. But if you get problems you know one possible cause at least.

its better to just install everything fresh. wait for a 9800pro.
and $200 isint too expensive for such a high preformance card.

Most people update thewir drivers as new ones come out and such. In order to do it right they have to clean out the old one 100%. That is not really that hard as long as you know how and what to use like a driver cleaner and such.

So I see no problem at all with you doing what you planned to do. As long as you clean out the old driver and run a driver cleaner than you should be good to go.

$200 for a 9800 Pro? What brand? newegg has an Asus 256MB for $355 and everyone gives it five stars. The Sapphire has a few complaints.

well I just went to newegg and did a search on "9800 pro" (with out the quotes) and found THIS and you can get the Saphire bulk for $210 and retail for $219 or you can go with an ATI build for $232

Are you looking for a 256 or 128mb card? A 9800pro 128 runs at 219 on newegg...But for a 256mb it will be in the $300-400 range.
