Nvidia SW IDE drivers - will they ever be updated/work?

After getting a WD Raptor WD740ADFD and having it skip like crazy with the installed Nvidia SW IDE drivers, I tried uninstalling them and voila, skipping/stuttering on my system is gone.

Seeing as how the last NF4 AMD update from Nvidia was a wonderful 8 months ago, does anyone know if Nvidia plans to fix their drivers or if they basically gave up on them?

My issue is I'm planning on running RAID 1 in the futue (whenver those 1tb drives become cheaper...) and Nvidia SW IDE drivers are required for that, so, does anyone have a workaround?

I'd be amazed if they ever fix the compatibility problems with their native (SW IDE) drivers...While I've only (briefly) used their drivers under NF2 boards, they were flaky as hell and in all cases I've tried them, I ended up going back the the plainjane drivers instead, I had far too many problems otherwise. One case I had to reinstall Windows as well.

Plenty of the time with the older drivers, they didn't really show any particular benefit to having them installed except for benchmarking addicts; And even then, didn't show that they were very worthwhile.

Nvidia SW_IDE Drivers are hit and miss, I never seem to have a problem with them, but as stated if they don't work don't use them.

The future is hard to tell what nVidia will do, my hope is that it will be fixed along with there HW firewall software, that flat out never worked. but by that time I will prolly have a new system.

The only thing to do at this point is to send letters voicing your dissatisfaction with there products.

You can try out the newer remixes that have been floating around. I've been using Mei's 6.0.6b3 pack quite successfully with the system below (including WD740ADFD :)).

I'll look into trying that Beta 3 package; it makes me nervous though to try unofficial drivers.

When you choose the NF4 bundle to unzip, for some reason it doesn't unzip the audio driver/panel though... it's very strange.

Also it includes an updated NAM for hardware firewall but as mentioned before that thing used to crash my system; it was the only weak link in an otherwise stable machine so I am about as willing to test out the new NAM/firewall as I am to cut my arms to feel alive.

lol. That was a pretty strong statement about your preferences!
I don't run the nVidia IDE drivers anymore either, unfortuantely you lose the "hot plugging" feature on the nVidia SATA channels, which is a bit of a pain.

I tried Mei's 6.07 release and although it gave me some installation problems I got it working and again the SW IDE drivers cause massive system stuttering even on the desktop.

Uninstalled them and everything works fine.

I guess my dream of running a RAID 1 setup are never going to work out... damn Nvidia :T

First NAM doesn't work and now their SATA drivers. Arg!
