I can't seem to find a thread here that compares some of the real world issues with both types of surround gaming. There must be people who have tried both and I'm wondering if there are some clear pros and cons of each system.
I've been using a 5970 for the past year and I'm going to upgrade to the cards coming out in the next few weeks. A single 5970 is not providing the juice I need to run the games I play, at settings I want them to run at.
My main gripes with Eyefinity:
1) No vsync with Crossfire and Eyefinity. I'm tired of the tearing and I don't need 100fps and unnecessary GPU usage. Framerate stability and a lack of visual tearing is really important.
2) Lack of resolution support. I have 1920x1080 displays and there is only a choice of native resoultion, a slightly less than native resolution option and a 4800x900 option with incorrect ratio. I would have though a 3x720p option would be a no brainer. Resolution is generally the first setting I will lower in any game, to raise framerates.
3) Horrible driver support over the past 6 months. It's as if they gave up on Eyefinity. I'm still using May drivers in November.
I have heard that Nvidia's solution, being forced to use SLI, manages vsync correctly and this is a big plus for me. What is the resolution support like and how have the drivers been the last few months? I have no brand loyalty for PC hardware. I will go for whatever product meets my needs at the time I upgrade.
Thanks for any help.
