any news on a possible PCIe nVidia Sound Storm...i could really use the functionality of my sound storm in a PCIe card for my other system...really bad.....the onboard Realtek blows....at least as far as interface goes...
 
no such thing announced (although was rumored, rumors have been squashed) for NF4 OR NF5; however, there is very little reason for this (except for cable management). What's wrong with the analog outs on an Audigy or M-Audio card?
 
You seem to be forgetting the SoundStorm's biggest selling point, IdiotInCharge. I'm guessing he's looking for the Dolby Digital on-the-fly encoding.

A few PCI cards have Dolby Digital encoding. The first one that comes to mind is the HiTeC HDA Digital Mystique 7.1 Gold. Terratec, a more popular and well-respected company, is supposed to come out with a discrete (PCI and/or PCI Express) Dolby Digital Live card in the next couple months, too.
 
not by nvidia but other soundcards are coming to the market with Dolby Digital Live capabilities. Some are on sale on eBay already, but its about double the cost if you get it now than wait for its US release.

I've actually researched it quite thoroughly for my own HTPC adventures, and that's exactly what I was referring to- Soundstorm has no other selling point (over everything else out there).
 
I agree, but I'm trying to help out the thread starter.

I too have concluded that analog outs are the most flexible option right now.
 
alright, alright, alright.....im willing to stray away from my beloved nVidia sound storm...even though should it come on the market in PCIe format, id grab it in a heartbeat.
so the question is now....which card, must be PCIe, would be the most comparable to the soundstorm, not to mention have a wonderful UI, i cant stand the way my realtek sound control works, it makes me not want to use sound whatsoever......
any suggestions?
