Was looking at the alienware SLi technology and wondered.. In general a mobo that accepts two 6800GT/U cards, can the same mobo work with ONE ATi X850?

THANKS

Im trying to wrap my mind around this...the nvidia SLi mobo has PCI-E slots...so if I get two 6800U but two years down the line ATi makes a video card I just HAVE to have, I can remove the two 6800Us and put the ATi in with no problems?

THANKS!

err... yah,,,, you just need to install the ATI drivers.

If you are willing to wait, there is a card ATI is releasing that I think you have to have (The R520)

It supports AMR, which is basically SLI, however, unlike the current PCI-E 6 series which has SLI, the R520 supports Dx10, which maked it very future proof. Im sure Nvidia is working on a card that also supports Dx10, but I havnt heard anything from them

Yummy, AMR, I can't wait. I'm going to build a system when it's released. That'll probably be around the time that AMD's dual core solutions come out. I hope that the dual core processors are better for gaming, although, current dual proc system lag behind single core processors in games.

Of course DX10 is almost two years off, so the odds you'll have your R520 still by then are about as good as the odds of me voting for a Democrat, but who's counting?

Microsoft said that they wanted DX10 for Longhorn... Hmm, whatever. But, the chances that I have my R520 are pretty good when it is released. I'll wait 2 or 3 years before i get the latest budget high-end videocard, then build a new system. (This time it was a 6800, and I'm going to build a new computer in a few months, AMD based.)

Dx 10 is a year off.

Less even, Early 2006...

OK, so say DX10 is a year off. How long until there are DX10 games after that?

Heh, 1 month before that, minimum :)

Err yeah sure. There will be all sorts of DX10 games before it's even released.

The one thing everyone should have learned from the whole DX9 situation is that it takes a while for new OS features to be integrated into programs.
