Nvidia Shader mixing problems gone?

I know that in the past, if you had different NV cards with mixed shader counts, the low shader cards would slow the others down, but



My 9600GT (64 shaders) and dual 8800GT (112 each) seem to be playing along just fine now.

I'm using driver 182.08

Is anybody else seeing this? or am I the only one mixing shader counts?
 
I think i'll try sticking in an extra 9800 gx2 i've got sitting on my desk in with my 295 and hope like hell it works :D then i'll let you know
 
lol ya extra due to my lazyness and also trying to keep electric costs down -_- but if i can mix the 9800's and the 295's i have an extra slot to spare.

no I was going to but i've been a bum and not wanting to take down my main system :( i'll probably force myself to get around to it soon because of the chimp challenge starting up soon.
 
shader mixing problems here,

Pair of mismatched 260s in my sig.
the core 216 - 8800 PPD
the core 192 - 5000 PPD

24 shaders make 3800 PPD difference? Unlikely I think

182.08 drivers
Vista 32

I might have some time tonight. I can drop a 9800GT inot my main box and see what happens.
 
I was just asking because I cant afford another 295, but a cheaper card in the 100$ range should give me about 3-4k ppd and be worth it I guess.

as far as I know they have never bothered to fix the incompatability between the G200 and G80 and other series of cores.

you get a constant stream of UNSTABLE MACHINE, EUE errors from the 88GTs or what ever you combine it with. I tried I don't know how many ways to get my 8800GS to fold with my GTX260 192.

I picked up a GTX 260 216 to fold with that GPU and put the 8800GS in the SWMBO's desktop. Solved the incompatabilities and added more D. Worked for me, but I can understand if it was not everyone's ideal solution. I just hope when the next series of cores come out, they will not share this incompatability. Oh wait, they probably will just like 88GTs combined with 98GTs.... etc, tho they fixed the last eventually (I think).........

I didn't know that the 9800GT and 8800GT were ever incompatible. Don't they both have the same number of shaders? :confused:
 
all you have to do is bios mod the 8800GT so that your system see's it as a 9800GT.. they are the exact same card.. only difference is that the 9800GT runs at 1.25v on the gpu and the 8800GT is 1.05 which translates to a tad bit better overclocking unless you run the 1.1v bios mod on the 8800GT then they both run the exact same speed..
 
Shader mixing still produces a ppd hit on all cards and as jfb9301 said you cant mix the 8/9 series cards with the newer gtx cards.

You have stumbled upon the rare combination of working cards, some say the order you put them in helps but I have never been able to mix 8800gt's (112) with a 9800gtx+ (128). Have you tested this configuration for long? it could just be that the variable ppd nature of these new units is falsely reporting a higher output.
