i installed geforce 6600GT and wenever i shutdown.. my pc restarts and a blue screen comes up.. do u htink i should reinstall the driver? has this happened to u.. howd u fix?
 
Is it AGP? Specs?

Ive never had BSOD come up on me. Why don't you start by making sure you have the newest version of your motherboard and video card drivers, as well as make sure you have cleared off any previous drivers that still might be lingering. Use Driver Cleaner 3.

Also what version of drivers are you using?
 
i am using the newest drivers from the website.. and its agp

Specs:

amd xp 2600+
2 gigs of ddr333 ram
geforce 6600GT AGP DDR3
200 gig hdd

If I were you I would right down the blue screen code it gives you and search for it. That should tell you what your problem is
 
You should do what was said above. I was under the impression you could get into windows but an annoying blue screen of some sort popped up a lot.

It could be your HDD's format, my friend kept getting BSODs and he had to insert the XP CD and boot from it to repair the file system. Look on Microsoft.com if it gives you codes.

I found the sheet he left it in my XP CD Folder, does it say
"STOP 0x000000ED UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME"

He got this by switching out hardware, and if so it's easily repairable.
 
yes thats the one i think.. doing with hardware.. um... how do i fix it.. i know my vid cards causing it.. but its isntalled correctly
 
type in the code there should be some answers to your problem on MSFT.com so do that then report back
 
my sister's comp had same problem. whenever i went to shut down it restarted instead. after an hr or so of tryin to figure out why. i gave up and formated.
 
First you'll need to make sure that the symptom is, infact:

STOP 0x000000ED UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

There are two possible problems, one is that you are using an incorrect IDE cable for your HDD, or that your file system is damaged.

For the former replace a 40-wire cable with a 80-wire cable, and load Fail-Safe defaults in BIOS.

For the latter you need to:

1 Start PC with Windows startup disks, or with the windows CD-ROM.
2 When the setuo screen appears press R to Repair
3 Select the correct windows installation (if more than one) you wish to repair
4 Type Admin password, if non just press enter
5 At Command prompt type:
chdsk /r
6 Press enter once "chdsk /r" is entered.
7 When the command prmpt returns type:
exit
8 Press enter once "exit" is entered to reboot.

I used this twice to bail her out of this problem she was encountering. If this is not your STOP error ignore my post but if you're getting this exact error then try it.

actually.. wen the error comes up i cant see all the info.. it jsut restarts.. its weird.. and i am using a correct thing on my ide cables.. the thing is i dont hacve my xp disk so i guess im scrrewed.. but why installing a card just damage my system?
 
are you sure its the video card causing the problem?

what made you think its the video card?
 
its not the card itself.. its a driver shit.. i got the new 67.03 driver ta came out on wednesday and i didnt get it yet.. but idk yet
