I have a pair of 670s, and they are my first foray into the green camp in over a decade. (Although, to be honest, I spent a very large portion of that time completely out of the gaming arena...)

I could spend hours and hours looking through and experimenting with all of the various settings, but I'm pretty sure that the answers I seek already exist somewhere. I just have no idea where...

First question. Are there any utilities / accessory programs / whatever that are recommended with the cards or with nVidia software in general?

Second question. Is there a "newbie friendly" list of settings, along with explanations / definitions, examples, and recommendations?

From what I've read (and I have been reading, I promise), I should be fairly good to just crank everything pretty high and go to town.
For the current games, at any rate. But what about future games? At some point I'll need to tone things back, but I don't have any idea what should be the first to go...

Any pointers or links are much appreciated, and I will do my best to answer any questions or provide any details requested...

1) NVInspector is a useful tool for changing the actual compatibility mode flags required to get certain modes of AA working in some games

MSI Afterburner is a good one for overclocking/monitoring temps etc. Nice graph interface. EVGA Precision is another but I prefer Afterburner's UI.

2) I like the official image setting guides (e.g. http://www./optimize/guides/battlefield-3-tweak-guide/) as well as HardOCP's game/image setting guides that usually show you advanced options (forcing AA via NVInspector etc).

Would you happen to have a known good link to NVInspector? I've found several different links to various versions online, with no clear indication of a homepage, nor which version is the newest / best.

I've found Afterburner / PrecisionX, and am going to experiment with it some to find a nice, fast, stable OC.


The "official" guides on "g e f o r c e . c o m" look like good reads, Thanks for pointing it out. (Any idea why [H] blocks links to that site?)

Where are the [H] guides located at? I can't seem to find a link to them on the site... Unless you mean the settings within the game reviews...?

Personally, I'd stay away from NVInspector unless you know what you are doing. It exposes a lot of settings that normally aren't used - for most routine stuff the options in the control panel are sufficient unless there is a specific game you are having issues with.

Precision and Afterburner both use the same core program (rivatuner) so you can just use whichever interface you prefer. Functionally they are pretty much the same.

I believe I've used Guru3D.com for NVInspector, or possibly techpowerup.com can't recall off the top of my head.

Not sure why that site would be filtered unless [H] restricts new users from posting URLs on the forums due to spam potential.

Forceman is right about NVInspector, don't fiddle with settings without understanding what they are doing. I only use it to make changes based on recommendations on authoritative sites (), I never manually tweak stuff to experiment.
