DigiTimes, citing anonymous sources at motherboard makers, claims that NVIDIA’s nForce 780i chipset will begin shipping next month, with mass shipments coming in January.

The nForce 780 SLI chipset will be available to two forms, the nForce 780i SLI (C72 XE) supporting Intel and nForce 780a SLI (C72 P) supporting AMD, noted the sources. The nForce 780i will target Intel's X38 chipsets as its major competitor.

I miss motherboard round-up reviews. I've been staying away from Intel nvidia chipset boards because of problems, although I really liked the NF4 for AMD. It would be nice to see how the newer boards stack up against each other, and if all or only some suffer from certain problems. Buying an Intel chipset board is pretty much the only safe option, unless you're on an extreme budget.

My 680i has been running pretty good despite my RAM dying but I think that was my fault. :(

I was not a fan of the 680i chipset. The P35 for me is far more stable. I guess Nvidia needs to keep pushing out chipsets since they spent $$ for the license.

Not a big fan of SLI/CF because it takes too much space and creates a lot heat. Another good example as to why I don’t like a dual card solution is when one 8800 is faster than two 7900's in SLI. Nvidia and ATI can keep the dual card solution.

I don't have an opinion yet on a dual GPU on a single PCB.

Sounds interesting...until...

"The demonstration unit is reported to have NVIDIA SLI and Quad SLI support, though it is not known at this time whether the final product will support NVIDIA SLI or ATI Crossfire"

CRAP!

"Intel plans to include native DirectX 10 support for the onboard NIC."

Say what? That wikipedia article sucks. Dx10 support for NIC? ORLY?

NVIDIA has never kept their drivers from working on Intel workstation chipsets. NVIDIA doesn't actually sell any workstation or server level chipsets so they have nothing to compete with in that market. So NVIDIA doesn't deny SLI functionality to those boards based on the workstation chipsets. However in the desktop and AMD workstation markets they do offer products of their own and therefore they prevent SLI from functioning on their competition's products.

I for one am curious about the 780 for one reason: and that is to see how well quad cpu's perform on overclocks. As it stands now unless im mistaken the chosen choice is P35 over a 650/680 board when using a quad core cpu. So it'll be nice if it handles the quad well. Im not saying i'll use SLI, but i would atleast like to know that the option is always available for whatever reason.
