Never heard of that. Worst i heard was the guy that got his dick burned (Whether this is worse is up for debate :D ), others just had blisters on their thighs.

If you put a DTR on your lap, i'll be amazed if you don't get crushed! <J/K>
 
I expect to see it in some ridiculously overpriced Alienware notebooks.

I'll never understand why anybody would ever buy one of their notebooks. What the fuck is the point of a DTR if it's as big, and weighs as much as your desktop? The new 7700's IIRC weigh like 12-14lbs. I'd like to personally smack every single person who's bought one upside the head.

they could just use a pentium M and that would knock down a load of power consumption and heat while boosting performance. :rolleyes:

pentium Ms can run almost fanless. the only major cooling required is for the GPUs. all they do is stick on a nice copper chuck on one side of the lappy, and then counterbalance the extra 8 pounds by putting every other component on the opposite side.

using only 2 fans: one on one side to cool the GPUs. the second on the other, cooling the CPU, RAM, and HDD.

i personally think that this is very feasible, but all companies are gonna charge rediculously high prices just because its a novelty (as in alienware will have to make another price bracket above what they have now. so were talking, what? 5... 6000$?)

even with a pentium-m, thats about 100w of heat to dissapate, which is no easy task.

this is what im figuring - 45w for first 6800, ~30 for the addition of the second one. 30w for the p-m. plus heat from the hard drive, chipset, and LCD inverter (these can get hot) as well as the mofests and power regulators on the board. any SLI laptop is going to be hot, and consume a lot of power. just look at how big teh XPS2 is, and it has a P-M. not as big as a sager with a p4 and the 6800u, but still large.
 
know of any upcoming technology that will either 1) consume far less power than their predecessors are or 2) will become far smaller than their predecessors are?

110W is a lot to dissipate, but current P4s can sometimes hit close to 100W alone, and theye being put into laptops.
