Hey guys,
My brother is on a trip, and let me borrow one of his 8800 Ultras. Now I come from an ATI X1950Pro, and I've already noticed that the 2D image quality on ATI was much better. (at least, default settings). Everything seemed much more "crisp" on my ATI card. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to improve the 2D image quality?

While I have not heard of any difference in 2D image quality since probably 2002, if there is in fact a problem theres not really anything you can do about it other than investing in a screen with a DVI connection. This will eliminate any effect from a possible difference in analog video output quality.

I doubt it's the card. Might be a weaker output signal from the new card though.
 
You need full digital video connections (ie DVI->DVI or HDMI) to get the nice crisp look. If you convert to VGA along the way the crispness will suffer.
 
I had an x1950XT and I got an 8800GTS a few weeks later, because I was having problems with the x1950xt, my motherboard, CPU, and or power supply.

You can clearly see the difference in 2d quality by looking at the text in the BIOS or the POST messages. ATI is much more clearer, and you can clearly see the jaggies on the font.

NVIDIA is blurry and looks like bung. When you get into your OS, the drivers might change things, but when it's just the card and the monitor, you can clearly see the difference.

I did the test on the same monitor, so don't get too excited there, chief. I can't wait to go back to ATI. I miss my video in. This TV Tuner card's video in is very unreliable. I'd like to play my gamecube sometime soon.

And both of these were DVI to DVI to an LG 1952TX LCD monitor. No analog signal anywhere
