Nvidia GPU? HDMI connection? Please read.

Ok let me chime in. I just bought a Panasonic VT60 60 inch 1080 plasma. This "Kuro Killer" is, with the exception of the ZT60, for all intents and purposes, the best performing plasma panel ever made.

Now, here are the issues. I calibrated my display using some reference settings I found and the image quality on Blu-Ray and video content is killer. The same settings, however, were not doing the job for gaming. Loss shadow detail, too dark. I couldn't see my enemies hiding the shadows?

The connection is made using the DVI output port on my GTX590 but the cable terminates into a DVI->HDMI converter before entering the TV.

So I did the following : 1 - I chaged my HDMI input mode from RGB to Nonstand (0-255). Then I ran a work-around-application that globally changed my video card's output to 0-255 dynamic range. Holy cow! Now, I don't have to jack my brightness up to 22 to see the enemy Now 6 brightness, which was supposed to be the reference setting, does what it is supposed to do. Blacks are inky, there is a lot of shadow detail, and the whole scene looks perfect.

So I conclude the following: PC content is based on 0-255. If you don't set up your system to output 0-255 and your TV to receive the same, you are missing out and there is essentially a mismatch.

I think the issue is real, it has not been addressed by the control panel whatsoever.

Well, either they are both configured for 0-255, or both for 16-240 (with a gain in banding effect).

The deal is that some TVs only understand 16-240. I have no idea what "super black" is used for (0-15) in this configuration.
