I havent heard anything about nvidia bottom of the barrell cards yet. I hope they dont continue this trend of making a card like the geforce2mx then have the geforce 4 mx and says its much better, as they did with the geforce FX5200. Basically these cards are all the same speed but claim to be faster than there predecessors, which results in a whole new slurr of "why do i get the same/worse FPS in farcry with the FX5200 as i did with my geforce 2MX!, its a newer card!"

What im saying is i hope nvidia's bottom of the barrell card is actually good and at the $100 range. Like say ti4200 performance capability would be nvidias $100.

I just want to end this legacy of the Reincarnated geforce 2 MX thats been reincarnated 3 times

The 5500 (slightly faster 5200) and MX4000 (same as GF4 MX440) are the refreshes of the low end for nvidia. nvidia might make a low end nv4x part eventually, but what's the point? Intel's next generation graphics core will provide OEMs with what they need for the low end (DX9 parts), so I don't see either nvidia or ati spending too much effort there. The ati x300/x300 se are just an RV370 (0.11u 9600np/9600se), for example.

interesting i completly forgot about the intel thing. Well isnt the lowend geforce's and ATI's usually the crap cards that get stuck in retail PC's?. Isnt like 30-50% of there total sales based on the lowend that these retail companys buy from them. If so, and they lose all this profit prices are gonna jacked up on cards more than they are now...

The low end don't even get video *cards*, they use integrated graphics.

IMO, the IGP9100 and newer Intel graphics cores are just as good as the cheapest parts now.

ATI & nVidia aren't going to stop making these craptacular cards as long as there's a market for them. Granted, it may take some time for them to get a part out for the current generation, but it'll come.

Personally, I kinda like the ability to pick up a GF4mx... at work we slap together lots of machines & have standardized on nVidia cards. It's great to start with a GF4mx and if somebody actually needs an upgrade for a project they're wokring on, it takes all of 5min to slap in a faster card.
