Nvidia dumping Abit?

What does that mean??? I mean the mumbo jumbo about why nVidia isn´t fond off Abit?

yikes, i hope support for existing nvidia products dosent suffer as a result ...

Wouldn't you just have loved to be a fly on the wall during the meeting where this was decided.

Interesting...

Abit and Asus are tops on my list for "enthusiast" single CPU motherboards... They are pretty well the only manufacturers who can get a relatively stable 275Mhz+ FSB on 865/875 chipsets (with Gigabyte and Soltek close behind)

With Abit not using the Nforce chipset for their mobos it will be interesting to see if Abit sticks with VIA SIS and Intel, and if they even bother to try to get ATi's mobo chipset (the prescott ready one with very capable onboard video)

As for Abit branded videocards... Well, the ones they made from Geforce cores never really impressed me.

the video card segment doesn't bother me much, despite the fact that my current card was manufactured by abit. but i always liked abit mainboards, and this news means fewer choices in the future.

Maybe Nvidia has already worked a deal with another company such as ASUS, and Abit just wasnt up to putting out that kind of $$ to keep the deal alive on their end?

Maybe Abit got mad cause nVidia stole their OTES design for their 5800 Ultra flop...

Um, I would like to point out that this is the INQUIRER!. This is just like reading the tablod's. It may be fiction. And judging on the very little information given. It seems fiction to me. Besides, would'nt news like this be on a more well known information site. Like slashdot?. Don't $hit your pants yet guys.

"Sources close to ABIT and NVIDIA said that the former was not satisfied with pricing and support offered by the latter, which negatively impacted the company’s ability to deliver certain products into the market on timely basis and at price-points ensuring high profit margins."

this much is true. 90% of everything from that site is bullshit.

It could be typical inquirer BS, or nvidia could be lying their asses off to their corporate customers as well. Maybe they're just following the trend.

Ripped news:

"January 12, 2004 - Built for Gamers, By Gamers, ABIT high-performance motherboards and graphic cards are engineered to perform. In order to offer the hardcore gamer even more ways to obliterate the opposition, ABIT is proud to announce its partnership with ATI, one of the leading manufacturers of graphic solutions. By collaborating with ATI, ABIT users will be able to experience ABIT Engineered ATI VGA cards.

"ATI adds to our already exciting line up of multimedia products," says ABIT Marketing Manager Scott Thirlwell, "with the new partnership, I'm excited to be able to offer ABIT users the most complete selection of the fastest VGA cards available. We will be able to meet the needs of more users than ever before."

Over the next few weeks, ABIT will add Radeon 9600XT and Radeon 9800XT cards to its VGA card lineup. ABIT is preparing for the next generation of VGA technologies, including PCI-X.

ABIT users have another reason to rejoice. Our product lineup will be unmatched in 2004."

Wow, I wasn't expecting that so fast. The ABit dumping Nvidia rumor hasn't even fully sunk in yet, and already the ABit joins with ATi rumor is starting.

ATI probably gave Abit better pricing if the xbit article is true or NVIDIA probably ended the nvidia-exclusive discount that it gave Abit when Abit started dealing with ATI.

It's not a big deal, it's a competitive market. Obviously ATI won a new customer in this case.

My guess is that ABit had a pricing deal with nvidia that said we give you a discount if you make nvidia video cards and nforce mobos.

The vid cards were lilkely a big enough business flop that they needed to go with ATI for business reasons, and nvidia didn't want to share the video card spotlite, and didn't offer the same pricing for nforce chips if they weren't making video cards.

So abit gave them the finger and called it management differences.

The rumor mill is saying the Abit wanted to produce ATI based cards along side with those from nV. NV then threatened that they would not allow this so ABIT chose to go with ATI at the expense of losing access to nVidia’s GPUs.

abits recent mobos for socket a have been far from impressive.. the nf7s are all duds, and the ai7(?) wasnt so hot. However, it looks as if DFI may be taking their place as far as super overclocking boards.. as the infinity is awesome.

You know, pretty soon we may see Abit dumping AMD altogether - and produce motherboards that accept only Intel CPUs using only Intel chipsets...

I have heard absolutely stellar things about the ATi mobo chipset (the one that grafts a 9600 equivalent into the chipset)

Its not quite as fast as Intels 875 dual channel memory-wise and definitely has a few bugs to work out, but the video looks like 2 generations ahead speed and qualitywise. It puts the onboard Intel eXtreme/2 to shame (not that it is very hard to beat the onboard intel)

ATi is definitely behind with only 10/100 ethernet, but I'm not totally sure how much of the market really warrants IntelCSA or 3coms Gigabit copper (its nice for remote harddrive backups for sure)

It might come in as a sleeper, much like the 9700pro did - It just appeared out of nowhere and took over.

I've said it before, the only reason the Nforce looks as good as it does is mainly because some of the previous Via/AMD combos were that bad (bad meaning slow or data-error prone)

Abit can still make AMD boards based on AMD chipsets. They haven't been covered much by the reviewers though. I think the chipsets are labelled AMD 750 760 and 8000 series for the Opterons

Maybe, but it doesn't balance out losing ABIT.
