Nvidia DualTV card question...

I'm going to be putting a HTPC together (with parts from a desktop that i don't need anymore), and i was planning on using the Nvidia DualTV capture card. Everything i have read says that this card is among the top tv capture cards available. HOWEVER, i've lately heard that if your using an nForce chipset mobo, that there are A LOT of problems trying to use a HDcard. I wasn't planning on getting an HD card right now, but i was going to in the future. It seems a little odd to me that an Nvidia TVcard is having compatability problems with a Nvidia chipset.

Sooo...Should i look at a different TV card ( VistaView Saber 2020, AVerTV Purity 3D MCE 500, or even the Hauppauge).

Another option, i'm not 100% deceided on a mobo yet. I was leaning towards the Foxconn 6150 board, but i might be willing to go with the DFI RS482 (ATI chipset).

Any suggestions?
 
The nvidual dualtuner card isn't a HD card, so there'll be no problems using it with an nforce chipset. If you're worried about any potential problems (I haven't really heard of any) get the ati mobo.
 
The problem is due the the PCI bus so it can really affect any mobo chipset, it's just that most of us use NV chipsets cause they tend to be the best for HTPC use. And it's just not just a problem with the DualTV card, it affects any PCI based Visx based tuner card.

What you can do to get around it is to get a USB HD tuner, a PCIe HD tuner (Vbox's e164 is the only one so far and it's not even out yet) or get a PCIe Visx based tuner (which won't have any issues with PCI or PCIe HD tuners).

I've used the Foxconn 6150 mobo, it's nice and all but it really doesn't have any options for TV out beyond svideo and DVI or VGA (depending on the model you get).

I would hit up ebay (god, did I actually just say that?) and get the MSI 6150 mobo instead if you're going s939. If you're going AM2 then I would get the Asus 6150 instead.
 
+1 for another vote on 6150, I've got the Asus 6150, the only down side with the asus is you have to order the component adapter braket and spdif braket sperately. Asus was too cheap to send the mobo with the two brakets.


Edit: I've got the Socket 939 Asus 6150, looks like the Socket AM2 6150 asus board comes with that braket

If I were you I'd get the the VistaView Saber 2020. I have it, it works great and with the PCIe bus there is no potential for trouble if using it in a system with PCI based ATSC cards. FWIW, I'm using it in a Foxconn 6150 board and the whole system works great.

No not exactly. The conflict issues you'll have is that if you plan on running any PCI based OTA HDTV tuner cards with teh Nvidia dual tv, and also have an nforce based mobo then you'll have studdering issues with the OTA hdtv tuner card.

but if you plan on doing just SD with the Dualtv tuner and the nforce mobo then you'll have no issues at all.

I'm considering purchasing the Nvidia DualTV and have seen mention on this board of certain compatibility issues when using digital tuners in PCI slots on Nforce chipset motherboards alongside the DualTV. I don't plan to use mine with a digital tuner, but do have an analog tuner (Diamond PVR-560), which I would like to use together with the DualTV. Is anyone aware of any compatibility issues for my proposed setup (DualTV + PVR-560)? Thanks!
 
What the heck is the point in requiring the cards to support digital signals when there are almost no unencrypted digital cable channels (short of your local channels)? Basically, this is making it so that the only cards to be sold will be OTA, since the whold CableCard garbage doesn't allow the hardware manufacturer's to just produce cablecard devices for resale to the public.

Guess I need to hurry up and get 1 or 2 of these cards to replace my PVR-500s while I can :(
