Nvidia drivers not working with Vanta LT on XP

Hey, yesterday I was working on a friends computer and we had to use his restore disk to fix it. What happen was it brought the computer back to Windows ME then we used his Windows XP Home Upgrade disk. Once we had that all done it was clear win xp couldnt find drivers for the video card (Vanta LT 16mb). I tried using the nvidia drivers from their site (Win XP/2000 drivers) and it didnt work. So maybe i thought we had to update windows xp for it to take... Didnt change a thing with it. So right now im stuck and dont know what to do next. If anyone has any ideas what i should try please let me know. Thanks

Windows XP default drivers should pick it up.
On my brother's old system, I had to run det 29's or det 23's, the 40s and up caused problems with textures on his Vanta.
 
Don't use the newest Nvidia drivers (forceware) for anything below a FX card....windows update only recognizes "Nvidia" but not the chipset and offers up the latest drivers for anything it detects as Nvidia.

What are det 29's or 23's? Also when i go to nvidias website they only offer the newest driver (forceware) and it suppost to upgrade everything including the video card in his computer. One thing i forgot to mention that happend was the first time i installed the new drivers it didnt work ( i did a restart) so I uninstalled them and restared again b/c it said i had to but when the computer came back on the screen was normal (good looking) but you couldnt adjust the settings. Then the next time i restared i couldnt get it back. Since then nothing has worked.

Like I said don't use the latest drivers for a Vanta (someone still has one of those??:p ) because the new "Forcewares" do wierd things to even GF4 Ti's. Go to www.guru3d.com and get an older version or possibly even ones that are optimised for the Vanta.

you should do a clean format, restoring and upgrading like that is bound to really mess stuff up.

I found the driver I need on there but when i accept the terms it just directs me to a broken link:( If someone else is having better luck could you grap it for me PLEASE and email me it, I would apprieate it so much. Me email is: BikePhantom38@aol.com and the driver I need is: Detonator 41.80 - Win2k/XP, DirectX 9.0 compatible
