Do not install these horrid things. they cut my folding score in half lost my shader clock. the new evga precision makes it look like its back but when set on 700/1560 my clocks where only running 400/800 which i think is 2d mode.

Probably getting power saving features in place for the power whore that GF100 will be.

thats what i was thinking as well when i was reading that they removed the shader overclock.. makes me wonder if they plan to lock the ability to overclock the shaders on the GF100's..

That doesn't make sense, because if you can't overclock the shaders in GF100 you've basically lost the ability to overclock the card full stop. Only the ROPs and L2 cache run on the core clock; everything else is a multiple of the shader clock. So unless NVidia want to severely cripple their cards in the eyes of its major market, then I don't really think that will be much of an option. Desperate times call for desperate measures, though...

I doubt that's the drivers. Your overclock was probably unstable, so the drivers crashed and clocked the card in low-power 3D mode. Reboot your computer to allow the card to run at 3D clocks again, and decrease your overclock if you want to avoid encountering that issue.

The ability to overclock shaders was not removed... There was a bug in the drivers that prevented overclocking tools from working. Unwinder already compensated for it in the latest version of Precision and he submitted a bug report to nVidia, so when the next driver version is released, it should be back to normal.

id hope it will be fixed but seeing as how crappy the last 4 or 5 WHQL versions have been i have my doubts.. though the one thing i have noticed thats been consistant.. every new driver version my GTX 260 has overclocked less and less.. 186.16 i was stable at 1512 on the shaders.. 191.07 im stable at 1458 on only a couple games and not in F@H.. 195.62 i was completely unstable above 1404 even on the desktop..

there was no unstable overclock as i always set my clocks back before installing drivers. there is also a thread in video cards about the these drivers.

Were you overclocked while folding after you installed the drivers? If you were, then my previous statements still apply. Reboot the PC, set the card to stock clocks, and I suspect you'll find that you don't have the same issue.

With my GTX 260, I did have to lower my overclocks a bit. It would kick down into the 2d speeds when doing work units. With precision 1.9.1, everything is back to normal and working fine. Has been 100% stable folding 100% since they came out now.

I am running these on one system and I noticed that it does not seem to monitor temps and adjust the fan at all.

If you are folding with these drivers make sure you set your fan speeds. :)

Where do you guys DL older versions of nVidia drivers?

On NVIDIA's main download page, there is a link below to "Beta and Archived Drivers".
Ah, thanks. :)

Next question is what's the best performing drivers for Win 7 X64 in anyone's experience? The v195.62 drivers I'm using are seeing less performance that I had in XP-32 using v177 and v178 drivers.

On my 64-bit XP boxen, 191.07 is my favorite driver. When I installed Win7, I was pleasantly surprised to see it install the same version of the drivers by default and it worked just as well it did on XP.

since evga precision has fixed the shader overclock.. i have to say these are probably the best drivers ive used for folding out of the 19x.xx series.. i can fold at 600/1512/1150.. but they are horrid for gaming since i can no longer run crysis at 630/1458/1200 like i use to be able to with the 191.07 drivers.. im stuck at 620/1404/1188 in crysis now and most of my other games.. and also dx9 frame rates are horrid compared to dx10 in crysis which is kinda nice but odd at the same time..

So, no driver install was even necessary then? I guess you manually added the nvcuda.dll file because I receive an error message about it?

turn off the windows security crap in windows 7 and/or set F@H to run as admin should solve the error.. the current nvidia drivers on windows 7's update database is the 191.07 drivers.. usually they are 1-2 versions behind whats on nvidia's download page..

191.07 was installed via my first Windows Update after installing the OS. I didn't have to manually add any CUDA DLL files.
