nvidia done with amd chipsets

Because my x58 motherboard can't run SLi.

Yup, there goes nVidia...

OP didn't say the death of Nvidia, he said death of SLI. I still don't think It's going to die though. Does the OP remember when you could only run SLI on Amd platforms? It didn't die then and it won't now as long as Intel keeps making SLI capable boards.

Maybe I missed it, but I didn't really get the end of SLI from that article. It just seems like Nvidia is touting the computing advantages of GPUs...

Finally there will be no "buggy" chipset anymore on the market. Intel and AMD chipsets have been very solid compared to nVidia's nForce 500, 600 and 700.

OP, I'm curious how you came to your conclusions...because I get nothing of the sort from that article.

Probably talking about this quote:

Some examples of that would be when AMD merged with ATI--that deal caused us to rethink our go-to-market strategy. We used to build chip sets completely top to bottom for every AMD microprocessor. When AMD bought ATI, it became a less logical decision to make. And so we decided that we would change our strategy from investing on AMD chip sets top to bottom to focusing on the Intel platform.

And [our chip] Ion is the result of that. And, you know, we suffered a year of transition in leaving the AMD market as we got into the Intel market. But here we are now with our fastest-growing business, which is Ion. Ion is basically a single-chip GPU with all of the system logic integrated into it and in [conjunction] with a microprocessor delivers an amazing PC.

Nvidia doesn't seem to be making AMD chipsets anymore... And AMD or Nvidia don't seem too interested in licensing SLI to AMD. So SLI on AMD seems to have died a while ago.

And Nvidia doesn't have any Core i7 or Core i5 chipsets. So good thing for them they allowed licensing of SLI to Intel chipsets.

People don't get that SLI / Crossfire could work on any chipset with 2 video card if Nvidia / ATI didn't crippled it in the drivers...

$ makes the world go round and if you don't pay Nvidia/Amd , you get no SLI or x-fire

So SLI on AMD seems to have died a while ago.

Only because AMD CPUs have fallen out of favor at the high end. If they were still champs Nvidia would be most interested in getting their GPUs matched up with AMD CPUs like it was in the olden days.
