Nvidia Burn?

Although this probably doesn't belong is the overclocking section, it might in the cooling section... After re-seating my GPU waterblock, the word NVIDIA was literally BURNT into the copper. Lots of re-lapping (to a mirror sheen I might add :D) and cleaning with 99% alcohol, the majority of the mark is gone. It's still worrying me, however...

Is this a bad thing?

Its not a burn. The nvidia logo, week and stepping ect is printed on there in a way that due to the preasure of the heatsink/water block the logo leaves a preasure imprint. I heavily doubt this effects preformance (note, no proof).

edit: you can 'feel' the 'print' on the die by scratching it. It almost feels like a laser printed overhead.

It was probly not a good idea to lap the block thou. Most bigname gpu blocks a mechanical exceptionally smooth and you would be hard pressed to replicate it by lapping. Note: mirror finnish does not reflect mechanical smoothness! For more info check out some of the dicussions at procooling.

haha i love giving advice then looking up to see my newbie title hahaha so funny :)

Ok, so burn was the wrong word... Mark is a better choice.

Well, to date, I've lapped well over 22 heatsinks, and 4 IHS's. All the same way, and almost each of them reported reduced temps (ELEVEN DEGREES on an old pentium 4 chip!!). I can do something to a mirror finish in under an hour, on a piece of glass, while watchin a good episode of the Iron Chef, or Hell's Kitchen :D.

I'm not worried too much about the thermal properties of the inprint, as I know the material they use to make the mark would be clear for that kind of stuff (RnD ftw). But, well you said it yourself, "Pressure Imprint." IMHO, silicon wafers shouldn't be leaving marks in copper blocks ;).

Trust me, I know alot more than this post seems to let on to, It just kinda caught me off guard, as I've never needed to re-seat my GPU WB, and all the "uncapped" processors (with the same laser engravings) never left said mark...

lol yeah i thought that to till i actually felt it myself. The marks asfik are laser engraved on the protective layer so it's just wierd.

haha yeah i was trying to not come across as an ahole :)
I just hate it when someone gets something like a swifty storm ect and takes a piece of emery cloth to it. eck!

When you reseat it give it a day (with some actual use) and check it...i'm putting my money on the mark returning. its strange hey.

edit: lol iron chef, its the stupid dubbing that makes that show funny haha. knowing me i'd zone out while watching and start twisting the hs mid motion screwing up the lap lol

That's the only reason I watch Iron chef :D.

"emery cloth" zomg shudder, It's almost as bad as when my friend emptied a full 3.5g tube of AS5 under his P4, without taking the thermal pad off first ;). Pop.

It just worries me, as I've never encountered this before!

yeah i've seen it happen on the maze4, silverprop fusion and the swifty mcw-60 which since im transplanting my water cooling right now i have it sitting infront of me and can see the light print of my 6800u.

haha the paste and pad on the p4 is classic. may as well just used neoprene lol.
Yeah i cant remember where is saw the emery cloth thing but it was a disaster.

on a side, i must say that the swifty mounting on the mcw60 is a godsend after having come from a silverprop fusion. I hope silverprops new block see's to fixing this :)
