nVidia and ATI cards on same system.

So I've been reading that you can, in fact, run both nvidia and ati cards together on the same computer under windows 7 without issues, and even put them in hybrid crossfire/sli and have the nvidia gpu for physx.

Ok, no problems so far.

I also know you can have both cards running independently and each one feeding different displays, which could be beneficial since it would avoid the issue of having the primary display running at 3D clock speeds all the time.

My curiosity, however, arose from this possible scenario.

I currently have a HD6950 as my primary card displaying on two 23'' monitors. I also have an older GTS250 laying around that I haven't used in quite a while. What I would like to know is if it would be possible to have these cards running together, each one connected to a different display, and use either one for different processing tasks, be it folding/gaming/whatever.

I don't intend to run the GTS250 as a physx card, but I would be interested on the possibility of using this card for both running my second display and perhaps playing older opengl titles on it that don't work quite well with my Ati card, or even running it for folding while my Ati card remains idling.

Would this be feasible?
 
Yes. I've run a 6970 for gaming and a pair of GTS 450's, one running a second screen and both of the Nvidia cards folding while the AMD card was strictly for gaming. It worked fine. I did not experiment with Physx because I didn't need it at the time.
 
most games will default to the primary monitor so you would have to set the monitor you want used before starting the game.
 
Ok, thanks for the replies. I will give it a go this weekend and see how it goes by adding my gts250 into the equation.

Another question, though.

I'm currently running my two monitors through my DVI connectors. I noticed that my 6950 has two mini-displayport connectors though. Does anyone know is I would also run on the same issue of higher idle clock speeds if I were to connect each display into each displayport with passive adapters?
