Nvidia 780A and ATI CCC issue.

Not sure if this is a common issue or not. Helped a friend rebuild his machine and swapped out his 9600GT for an ATI4850. Everything was buttery smooth until we loaded the ATI drivers and CCC. After that the machine started to hang up and stop responding and sometimes lock up completely. This was with Vista 64bit. So I reloaded the machine with Win7 64bit which loaded its own ATI 4800 series driver and the machine still worked great. As soon as I installed 10.6 the issue returned and the machine started to lockup and act funky again. We swapped back his Nvidia 9600GT and all is good. My only other concern is his RIADMAX 500W power supply might be giving him an issue. Any ideas? We did a bios update thinking its a compatability problem with the Nvidia chipset board and ATI video card but that didn't help either.
 
PSU needs to be replaced thats for sure.I don't believe that nvidia chipset's play nice with ATI equipement.I could be entirely wrong.

Can you describe the issue in more detail?
I also have a 780a chipset, and may be experiencing the same issue with a 5870.
 
Don't see you using a raidmax power supply and their PS's are crap.:p

Exactly, and I may be having the same issue. The only common factor being 780a chipset, hence why I'm asking.
 
If the PSU is insufficient the machine wouldn't lock up tho, but would just reboot itself. Well in my experiences anyway.

Have you installed the Nvidia chipset drivers before installing the ATI drivers?
 
After loading the driver the rig would start to become very notchy in its performance. Things like launching a program would take forever and I got tons of Not Responding problems even just browsing the web. I had zero issues before loading the driver. I have always used Intel boards so the Nvidia side of things is a little new to me.
 
That sounds like just bad mobo drivers to me.

Are you getting the drivers from Nvidia's site or from the mobo manufacturer's site?

It should be from the manufacturer to ensure it is good and up to date.

what he said and also id recommend trying a different version of CCC something like 10.3 or 10.4 that we know people really didnt have any issues with.. 10.6 still seem a bit sketchy..

I tried two different operating systems and same problem. I stuck the card in another machine and it works fine. We ended up selling the card and picknig up a GTX280 pretty cheap and its been running perfect.
