NVIDIA 6800 84 degrees idle

my 6800 is running at 84 degrees idle
this is with the stock hetisnk and its a BFG card with the 2 mini blue fans on it.

now my temperatures were in the upper 60s before, but i just switched over to x64 windows edition so is this a bug?
i dont wanna freak out over nothing.
 
Unless you just entered a heatwave I'd say it is a bug. Drivers for x64 windows are still buggy, so try to update to the newest version.
 
60's is still a bit warm, you might want to consider an aftermarket cooler. With my NVSilencer 5 I'm idling at 47 degrees.
 
i bought it used off here
one of the screws is missing on the heatsink as well.
original seller says it should have no problems.
the real question is how am i going to rma it if it is indeed not a bug

A missing screw? That can cause lots of problems. Mainly very poor contact with the GPU which would cause terrible cooling.

Yup, not enough pressure on the heatsink. They put 4 on there for a reason ;) . Ask the guy to buy you another cooler, the Zalman is only about $30.
 
reapplied with as5
and cleaned up all that mess around the edges of the chip, there was white goo everywhere.
to get less pressure on the video card,
i flipped my case upside down, and inverted the optical drives.
temperatures are alot cooler i might add.
only so there is less pressure on the video card heatsink.
54 idle so far, and to think i thought it was a bug for a minute.
that would explain all that random crashin i was experiencing.
 
The Forceware 71.84 drivers have a bug where they give a much higher temperature reading, check under the "Open Issues" section of the release notes for details. You aren't using those, are you?

Glad you got it fixed.... sorta, lol.

You should have added eariler that you were getting crashes eariler, but its okay.
