i need a new video card(see below for current) what are your thoughts on the 5600? don't have thew money for a 9800 right now, how does the 5600 compare?
 
#1, do you need it RIGHT now? (could you wait a month or 2)
#2, Whats the MAX amount you can spend.

Oh, and on the topic of if the 5600 XT is ok, no it isnt :D

Poorly, to be honest. The 5600's shader performance isn't that much more compelling than the 5200's, and even a stock 5700 will beat it around like it ain't no thang. Disappointed as the PCI MX 440 probably makes you, the 5600 is likely to leave a sour taste in your mouth when you try to play the latest and greatest games on it. Save your pennies a little while longer and grab a 6600 when it's released. You will definitely thank me.
 
i had a 5600 and it stunk. listen to halon and wait for the 6600s. they will be about the same price as a 9800 pro right now but alot better
 
You can do that, the card will be out in a bit, and will get around ~200$ tag most likely. But if you absolutely must get something for under say..150$ right NOW, I would probably have to recommend you a Sapphire 9600 XT which is only 135$ at newegg. Trust me, its a good card. If you got 200$ and cant wait, go 256-Bit 9800 Pro. Take note though, people are selling these cards over ebay and over in the For Trade//Sale section, so you could probably get one for even cheaper. Im just trying to give you a broad range of options, because often enough I too hate waiting :D .

Also, if you have around 100$ or lower, i'd recommend seeing what you could get from others who are selling used cards.
 
Yeah if you can get the 9700 Pro for 120-140$, it would be the deal of the century! I'd do it in a heart beat.
 
Ok so i figured i can wait, is the 6600 going to be agp or pci-e? Around how much is it going to retail for.

If i could find a 9800 pro for around 130-150 i'd jump on it, but i guess i can wait if something new is coming out that will be better than the 9800.

i'm wanting to spend around 150- 200ish, so whatever is in that price range.
 
The new mainstream performance cards are just right around the corner, waiting would probably be the best bet. :p
