hello,

2nd post on forum, sorry for bad english. i buy a refurbish 5600 ultra 128mb form newegg abot 1.5 year ago. i find out lest week is junk card. i am not much a gamer at all. i play halo on it, and is run very terrible. game very jumpy, prety much unplayble. my pc is amd xp 2600+. my apple emac play halo 3 time better, barly jumpy and it have only 1ghz with 32mb radon 7500. so i buy 6600gt from newegg, install in pc, and halo play sooooo much smoother., no jumpy at all. play better than emac too. my queston is, is worth sending back 5600 ultra to repair? or maybe card have drivers are no good?

thank you. :)

nothing is there to repair...nothing is wrong with ur drivers..it is like u said..a junk card....and the 6600gt is who knows how many times faster than the 5600.....like 10 @ least....so yah...instead of rmaing it..send it to me haha..i got a pentium 3 system that can use it :)

wow fast reply!

i thougt 5600 ultra was good card. it play doom 3 ok, just no halo. i do no think 6600gt was out 1.5 year ago, no? i probly might of get that one insted. or i just dumb and no see it on newegg. hehe. but yes, is junk card. :)

It wasn't out 1.5 years ago, no.

The Nvidia FX series especially the 5600 and 5800 series in the series are all notoriously crappy.

well..it probably play halo poorly b/c halo is a poorly coded game for pc.....

Not only is it poorly coded but it is a poorly coded D3D DX9 game and a 5600ultra, if it was to perform well, it'd be in an opengl game.

ok i see. mac use opengl. maybe that why the emac on radon 7500 perform better on halo? and doom 3 perform fine on 5600 ultra, so doom 3 is opengl? :)

No, the 7500 is actually weak at opengl, you see nvidia is known for their good opengl support and ATI is known for their good D3d support but their support of the others is lacking for both.

I say the 5600 just sucks period.

Edit: yes doom3 is opengl

The 5600 Ultra @ 400/800 or above performs on par with a 5700NU, which isn't a bad card for the money, even at this point, well worth $60-80... able to score 3000-4000 in 3dmark03, halo @ 10x7 with specular off, doom3 smoothly @ 8x6, fast enough ram to be able to use some AA in dx7 and some dx8 titles... it's not that bad, really...

And the nv30 (5800)? Maybe you haven't checked lately, but driver improvements have made the nv30's perform pretty much completely on par with the 5900 series... ... crappy? No. Unless you are a MOH:pA and BF:V junkie, in which case you best skip the nv3x generation and get something nv4x...

I'm not going to get into a battle about something that is widely known- the fx series just wasn't a good series. And that's that.
