Nvidia 3D Vision 2 - Is it fun?

I'm thinking about getting a set, but I'm curious if it's very good. Does it add much depth to most things, is it pleasant?

How about the blur effect; is it more like playing on 60Hz, or 120hz?

indeed it is 60hz per eye but it does feel more like 120hz than 60hz. by all means get it, it's worth it for Tomb Raider alone, most amazing experience I ever had in gaming by a very wide margin, but know that the 3d vision software team at nvidia is the most incompetent group of retards of all time in the history of tech and that the community, and the community alone, is responsible for making 3d vision a great experience overall.

and if you see many games in there that you like, order it without any delay. it's completely amazing. can't play without it anymore. 2d just looks weird now. the official 3D support list by nVidia is, like every other thing that nVidia does in relation to 3D vision, entirely worthless.

also go on the 3d vision section in the official nvidia forum for any further info, that's the main hub for the community, as this thread is about to be filled with OMG 3D LOL WHAT A USELESS GIMMICK 3D SUCKS11!!!1!1 in 3... 2...

Good post. 3dvision is active 3d, do you have any experience with passive 3d?

Jeez now you are making me miss my old 3d projector I used to absolutely love playing games in stereo 3d on that. Let me tell you something, there is nothing as immersive (except maybe good VR) as playing in stereo 3d on a 120 inch image on your wall. It literally looks like there is a hole in the wall into another dimension...used to play tons of Left 4 Dead 2 and Crysis 2 this way and man was it a blast. Also it's great for Adventure type games like Batman Arkham City and I can only imagine how fun Far Cry 4 would be on a 120 inch screen, stereo 3d :_d

If my 3d vision glasses still had batteries that worked I would let you know. It's a pity though that there are no 120/144hz 1080p DLP projectors yet, 720p 3d isn't as slick as 2560x1440 2d. Hopefully next year with hdmi 2.0.

I think the Optoma HD26 can do 144hz, and is 3d 1080p! Seems like a really good deal too at around 650 Euro. I want one :_d

Nah I think the hd26 is the same as my w1080, running 1080 in 3d @ 24fps per eye and 720 in 3d @ 72fps per eye since that is the maximum of hdmi 1.4a.

Anyway I'm getting off topic, 3d vision is fun, give it a try OP. Just be prepared to tinker the settings and mods to get it working correctly.

Sorry for the (slight) necro bump, but I had some related questions. I just picked up a passive 3d UHD TV (LG 49UB8500) and I'd love to be able to give 3d a try for games and movies, but I admit I'm completely clueless as to how to get all that to work. From a bit of research, it seems that I need the Nvidia 3DTV program? And that's paid SW, correct?

I read through the Nvidia literature online, but the readme file was dated 2010, and talked about the most recent GPUs being the 400 series... It said that 3d games were limited to 720p resolution, is this still the case?

Does the game have to enable anything to get the 3d to work (provided I have Nvidia 3DTV program installed)? Or is that all done within 3DTV?

Once it's setup, what 3d mode do I put my UHDTV in? I see it has several, including side by side, top and bottom, 2d->3d, etc. Thanks!

1. Yes, it is paid software unless you have a 3d vision dongle connected from an nvidia 3d vision kit. Additionally, nvidia's drivers need to recognize your display as a supported model, so definitely google and see if others have gotten it to work. Even if it's not supported, you may be able to get it working through monitor edid hacks. YMMV.

2. 1080p should be possible but only at 24fp. For gaming, that's generally unacceptable, so 720p is what you should expect. This is a bandwidth limit imposed by hdmi. (hdmi 2.0 adds bandwidth, but i'm not sure if 3d vision has been updated to support hdmi 2.0).

3. every game is different in how it supports 3d. Some few of them have native support integrated Doom 3 BFG for example) however most of them will need to be configured through the nvidia control panel. Not all games render well in 3d. Many titles will have post process effects render at the wrong depth (shadows, reflections, smoke, HUD, crosshairs, etc). again, YMMV.

4. The options you're describing are for converting non native 3D formats. 3D Vision uses frame packed 3D, much like the content on a blu-ray 3D. Your tv should detect this automatically.

@Neon01: Nvidia may or may not support your specific TV. You can download the trial and test it if you like. Just be aware they are finicky with their support and still limited to 720P for gaming (1080p for Blu-Ray)

However, you should also be able to use the TriDef Ignition driver, which will support any resolution for passive TVs (interleaved). This will be higher quality than the 720P HDMI mode on Nvidia 3DTV Play. It's also paid software but fairly reasonable at $40. If you use line-interleave mode you shouldn't need to do anything on the TV (just put on the glasses). You can also try side-by-side or top/bottom modes if you like but the line-interleave should be the best quality.
