I have heard a lot of talk about the nv5 silencer being not too good on 6800gt.
many people say that this is because the people are being stupid, however there have been constant complaints of the coolers being 'warped', and the ram coolers being too high/low, and the core not coming into contact.

should i get one of these?

(actually two in an SLI config, on a8n-sli, as this is the only sli mobo that fits them)

It's worth a shot imo. Anything would be better than temps two 6800GT's in the same case sharing air would make

Check out the rev 2 in this thread: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=854977

The pads for the memory might help with any fitting issues as well. Pretty much everyone who's put one of these coolers (rev 1) on a GT has noticed a substantial drop in temps when it's done right. Others have had to spend time sanding down to make a good contact. When I tried putting one on my 6800Ultra I needed to put on a fair old wedge of AS5 to get good contact all round, but the fitting wasn't exactly hard as such.

If you need to spend time getting the fit and finish right consider it a part of your hobby :D

I have a BFG 6800GT OC and with the stock cooler, it really heated my case up bad. The best thing about the NV5 is that it exhausts that hot air outside. Mine is a rev 1 and it did have some fit problems but I took care of that with a dremel.

Awesome cooler other than the fit issue and from what I've seen, this is remedied with the rev2.

I got my nv5 a day ago and it went on without too much trouble. The contact between the GPU and the NV5 was a bit iffy so a thicker layer of AS5 was needed but the temps(both load and idle) are lower by a bit. I used the whole tube of thermal crap solely on the RAM to make sure it contacted well enough (it seemed quite high off) but yer, the rev2 should fix all those probs.

Best thing about having an NV5? MY 6800GT HAS FINALLY SHUT THE F%$K UP!!!

man idk what you guys are talking about i just got the regular one on friday and it took me 10 minutes to hook it up with NO problems not 1 and my temps have dropped 13 degrees, its perfect to me i had not one problem, i say get it you'll love it.

go for it. it's not too difficult to install and you get rid of the grating whining 6800gt stock fan noise.

whoever said the NV5 is not benefitial is either A. a moron , B. Mounted it improperly. IMHO it makes these cards near silent and drops load temps SIGNFICIANTLY, you cant go wrong with these, but make sure you use just enough AS5 on the memory(a liberal amount, about 50% more than you would use on a normal core) and i guarentee hapiness!
