Hey guys...

I stupily bought a Nv5 thinking i was getting the right one for my brothers card...

When it arrived i noticed it was for a 6600GT PCi-E :( and my brothers is a AGP card..

whats the main diffrences?? can it be fitted witout 2 much hassle or have i wasted the money???

Your facts are a little messed up, probably why no one is answering.

Try answering these questions, which should clear up any issues.

1. What kind of Video Card does your brother have? Ie, a 6800 GT.

2. Which exact version of the Artic Cooler did you buy?

You said you bought Version 5 (for 6800 cards) but what you described as recieving as a Version 6 (for the 6600GT's, PCIe)

So you are going to need to clear up the facts, an I am sure someone can help you.

What card does your brother own, and what version of the cooler did you actually recieve?

Ok the cooler we recived is the "Arctic Cooling nVidia (6200/6600GT) VGA Silencer 6 (Rev2) " not the NV5 i thought :S

and my brother owns a Nvidia 6600GT AGP card.

what i wanna know is can that cooler be made to fit that card without too much hassle??

Cant give you an exact answer, but I can give some theory on my part.

Artic Cooler doesn't make a cooler for the AGP version of the 6600gt. Now their must be a reason for it, becuase they coolers fit like 95% of all the coolers out there, so if they didn't make it, its probably for a good reason.

Is i moddable? Probably.. someone out there has to know the differences from a AGP version to a PCIe version..

im guessing memory placement?
 
I got an AGP 6600gt. The difference between the two is the bridge chip that the agp model has. There was some reason that nvidia didnt make the core and bridge chip use the same heatsink, and I think it had something to do with each part expanding differently due to heat, but I could be wrong. Odds are, due to that extra chip, it won't work and I doubt it will be easily modified. If you can return it, the Zalman VF700-ALCU works fine on mine.
 
Yup Metsfan got it right, after some more research, it comes down to this.

The GPU is in a difference place in the AGP version, vs the PCIE version. THE HSI bridge is in a funny place in the bottom of the card, which needs to leaves Heat sink on it. No way a Artic cooler is going to go on this card, no matter how much you mod it.

Looks like your going to need to return it.... it does look like the Zalman fits on most, you might want to explore that option. Too bad, i loved my artic cooler on my 6800.

Its taking long enuf to mod the case lol...

Getting custom aluminium parts CNC machined including a front blowhole and Case Feet.

People at my work own me favors ;) Too many people want copper head gaskets :p
