Hello all, this is my first post here. I have been visiting this site for about a year now. This christmas I decided to make my own SFF with a decent parts. Unfortunatley I started getting random restarts with the driver stuck in loop error when I started the computer back up. So I did a little research turned off auto shut off and now realize I have been having the Nv4_Disp error :mad: . So i thought it was the video card a XFX 7800gt so I returned it and bought a new XFX 7900gt :) . But again almost always when I do something that involves 3-d except 3DMark06 which I have run 15 times with no crashes. I have had it happen once while not gaming but even with auto shutoff turned off it didnt display the BSOD. But it doesn't always happen, sometimes the game seems to be lagging a second with sound looping for 1-2 seconds then the sound catches up and the video remains frozen. It also has been very buggy when I run my memory in dual channel mode, it just closes games with critical errors two seconds after I start them up. I have tried the Nvloopfix.zip, turning frames rendered ahead to 0, and disabling the NV driver heap in the services menu. I have run out of ideas below is my current set up. PLEASE HELP ME, its driving me crazy.

any chance you try a bios update? try starting with basic tests.. prime.. memtest.. see if those cause any errors.. could heat be an issue?.. just throwin ideas out..
 
I have the latest bios, heat is not an issue because i have run it with cover off and big fan blowing on it, i have run small portions of prime but do not know how to get memtest to work thx for the reply. :)
 
memtest is at www.memtest86.com there should be an image to download that you burn to a cd with any burning software (nero,alcohol120%) then you reboot your computer with the disk in your drive.. make sure you have it to boot to cd before hdd.. then it'll load up on its own and start running
 
Question for you: Have you tried using something like Detonator Destroyer and removing all the Nvidia display drivers and installing the latest driver? If you have multiple diplay drivers installed (or even non Nvidia display drivers such as ATI) this will cause the NV_4 error. I can remember having a similar issue almost a year ago that a supposed new driver fixed that didn't. It wasn't until someone suggested to me to wipe all instances of the drivers off and install the latest before these error messages went away. Oh yeah, it was on a 6800GT AGP card awhile ago.

Unfourtunatley I have reinstalled windows completely, tried other driver removers and tried alot of different drivers.
 
I think it is the memory, I had set my memory to bad timings and I kept getting nv4_disp errors. I loosened the timings and ne'er a problem since.
 
Did you find a solution to this?

I did some research on it....seems like it has to do with nvidia's driver and it has been happening on different card families for quite a while

couldn't find a definitive solution though

There is another thread about this topic on the video card/nvidia flavor forum. Most ppl seem to think it is related to system memory - overclocking

my thinking is, if it is related to system memory and the problem came from Nvidia's driver, then you should try increasing or decreasing the system memory frame buffer in the bios, may help.....

Yea I have read in other places that once people loosened their memory timings the problem was solved. The only problem is im not overclocking at all. In the bios i have it set to auto, plus i have a MSI RS480M2-IL which has very very very little settings to mess around with.
 
no, i don't mean the memory timing but the frame buffer size from your system memory every mobo should have this setting (from what I've seen)
 
Under Dram configuration settings I have two options when i set it to manual CAS-timing and memclock or something like that. AND IT TAKES LIKE 5 HOURS TO RESET THE BIOS. ARRRGGH i remove the battery and move the switch and it literally takes a day just to reset them :mad:

I vaguely remember something like changing your AGP aperture (sp?) size being a solution (dropping from 256mb to 128mb), but this is a PCI-E video card. Still though, it seems like memory keeps coming back as the possible culprit. By chance do you happen to have other modules you can try in this board?

for resetting the bios there should be a jumper on your board.. turn the system off.. switch the jumper.. turn it back on.. turn it off switch the jumper back.. turn it back on.. should be reset..
 
Hmm... Well I might have not done it in that EXACT order, but i have done something very simmilar to that, and it still takes a good hour of the jumper being in the reset position before it resets. I dont know maybe I have just a dud motherboard, and its not getting enough voltage to the memory. I read that about the MSI RS480 somewhere, I think im just going to part ways and buy a new MSI 6150. What do you think would be the best motherboard with enough space for a dual slot graphics card, sound card and Phisx for UT 2007? I only run at 1280x1024 so one graphics card will suit me ok. I plan on upgrading to 7900GTX by the time UT comes out.
 
Hi All, Try disabling the "Nvidia Display Driver Service" (run-->services.msc).
See if that helps.

Hmm... I have two options sell my video card and see if a ATI card works for some reason, or sell my motherboard and but a nForce board. Which one do you guys think would work? I am gettting really sick of only being able to play very short games, because otherwise I never get to finish them. :mad:
 
Wow i just got done running 2 loops of 3dmark 06, Prime 95, rthdribl, and memtest. NO ERRORS. btw i just did a fresh install of xp so fully clean. But i intalled BFME II started it up noticed odd artifacting, then restarted comp, then program loaded up fine. Played about 15 mins of game and BAM Nv4_disp errror. :mad: :mad: :mad: . I also went into event viewer looked under system log and found this

Wow, I cant take this anymore im just gunna sell it and start over with a fresh new AM2 build :p, the funny thing is I took out the graphics card got rid of drivers with driver cleaner pro, restarted and everything seemed to be fine. But while surfing the web today my computer freezes and the screen gets very blurry like i was looking at a double image very close together, but moving back and forth very rapidly. I have to manually shut off and upon re-entering windows get no error. This has happened 2 in about 2 hours time today :mad:
 
Hmm... Well can anyone decipher that error message i gave you? Well I have not fixed the problem yet but i did install speed fan and am watching temps... and one thing that is bothering me is i have remote2 at 111 degrees C. What is remote 2? is it the processor and i totally f'ed up on installing the heatsink? could that cause some problems? my Ambient temp according to it is 31-33 C. Remote 1 is 40-45 C. Remote 2 is 110-112 C. And Hard drive 1 is 34-35 C. I have no idea where that temp is. Can someone plz help me

I was getting consistent crashes / lockups with my MSI RS480M2 MB and it turned out to be a compadibility issue with an Audigy2 ZS sound card, once I removed it or used an X-Fi - I never had any more issues.

Did you try looking through MSI's forum for similar reported issues?
 
It happens to my setup too (on occasion, but alot more when I try to OC my SLI).

Although it happens alot when OC SLI, it still happens with everything at stock (leading me to believe that there must be another factor)

I heard rumors that Radeon Xpress board in particular did not always play nice with nVidia cards. (could be the same reason I always get display corruption on bootup on the TForce with an ATi card - driver manufacturer pettiness).

I would get a new board, because that MSI board was the first RX board released and has had nothing but issues.

Lets see, your error code 100000ea points to a thread that is stuck in the device driver. In this case, your video card driver is hung in a loop and times out. You can see a list of these errors at EventID.Net.

Well I just recently bought an EVGA SLI motherboard (for upgrade purposes), and am happy to say in one night of testing i have not got any Nv4_Disp errors. :D
On the other hand every thing I have been doing has been causing fatal errors in the program. And will shut down the program. :mad: . UHHH... the only reason i think this could happen is because I did not re-format my hard drive. I forgot how so i ended up just trying the repair function. Would this cause all these fatal errors?
