Anyone else hear this I heard that ATI and Nvidia are planning to release NV48 ( basically a Geforce 6800Ultra with a higher core and memory Clock, minor updates and native PCI-Express) and Ati's updated R420 (R450?) before Christmas. Reason's Being to Help with the Low availability of the Geforce 6800Ultra's and to put out another Top end PCI-E card for the Big Spending holiday season. :D :p

Word is ATi might be faster or might not be faster depending on what happens with .11 and no low k, nV's will be faster. But neither cards have been announced just have to wait and see.

Well there was talk of ati's next part not being a ultra high end part.. perhaps a X800 pro replacement, with 16 pipes.
Nvidia still faster.. at the high end level.. that is all, ultra high end.. erm no..

Thats a possiblity but if nV comes out with something faster I don't think ATi will sit around with an x800 pro replacement.

No the new nV card will replace the 6800 utlra and they might also replace the 6800 gt.
 
Maybe higher speeds. Maybe more ram. Maybe better features (sm 3.0 for ATI, etc). Maybe a whole new chipset and not a update (dought it). Lets just wait and see.
 
I read somewhere that NV might be squeezing more pipes in the shrunk down die. Now that would be a world of hurt for ATI.

SM3 comes in ati's spring part, the R520.
 
Wow, the 520. Imagin the specs. Ah well. I hope the 420-450 will have more pipelines too.

matrox parhelia has 512 ram.
 
It's called the R480. It will use .11u, but that is chosen mostly to increase yields and decrease cost, while having a potentially decent native PCI-E solution. In otherwords, don't expect it to be faster than the XT-PE. It is also supposed to sport a 512 MB model, although that much memory would probably be counter-productive for what the companies are currently trying to achieve, at least on the high-end. These traits go for the NV48, as well. I'm not completely convinced we will even see that half-gen step, if we are to see it than things need to ramp up rather quickly before the end of the year. Most likely we won't see truly superior cards until mid-2005.
 
I highly doubt you will see a 512MB video card this year. I assume the NV50 and R5xx series will have 512MB of video RAM and a native PCI Express capabilities. I am going to upgrade my motherboard late next year once the beta testers get done with PCI Express version 1.0 :)

The R480 and NV48 will support up to 512, but I dont think even the R520 will have 512 ram, the R520 is is due in spring, I don't see any demand for it, it would drive cost up substancially!
 
well in the 66 driver notes there is mention of 512 mb memory buffer fixes. But it also stated for the fx3400 quadro and for future cards.

That must be why EVERY hardware site posts links to their news items. Yeah, because it's all complete fabricated crap that's fooled everyone out there??

No, the Inq isn't perfect (I've often seen mistakes in their news) but generally they're an excellent source of information. You can ignore their editorials if you want (I usually do) but these guys are dealing with industry sources and reporting 90% of their news straight from them. These are sources that mere forum weenies like ourselves never get access to.

It's actually YOU and I who get most of our 'information' straight from forum rumours, not the Inquirer.

Agreed. And I have publicly stated I'll eat my shorts if a 512 mb DDR3 gaming card comes out b4 the end of the year. These guys keep making noises about 512, but anyone who has passed economics 101 with greater than an "F" average must realize that it won't happen. You don't have to have inside scoop to know that.
