I just put one on a new eVGA 6800U. I didn't check the temps before I switched over (just popped it into my system to make sure it wasn't dead.) It maintains a constant 50-58C. A couple notes. I had to mod my card to fit the silencer 5 on it. The metal edge of the card (where it screws into the case) is 2xslots wide. The silencer needed one of the slots open to push air out of. So, I had to cut part of it off. eVGA has a great buy-up policy, and by doing this, I won't be able to take part in this. Second, there will probably be a little gap between the memory chips and the heat sink. Just put a heavier than normal coat of thermal paste on the chips and make sure that there is contact. DON'T try to tighten the screws down more to make contact with the chips or you WILL damage your card. Just takes a light bit of tightening until the rubber grommets compress a little.
Basically, if you think you will want to buy up on your card (90 day limit) or you don't currently have any temp/noise issues, I wouldn't change out your hsf. If you don't want to buy up, are hitting high temps, or the fan is too loud for you then the Silencer is for you.

Personally I don't think its worth it. You might get a few degrees lower temperature and a bit quieter cooling, but for the price and time it will take to install its not worth it IMO. The 6800GT/6800U reference coolers do an excellent job of cooling (in fact the stock 6800GT cooler can handle Ultra speeds with ease) and aren't noisy so there really isn't too much need for the NV5 unless you just want to tweak out your card for fun, cause you aren't going to get any significant performance gains from using it.
Watercooling on the other hand with something like the DangerDen waterblock would be an worthwhile improvement over the stock fan in terms of less noise with the 6800GT and both less noise/more performance with the 6800U.
i think it was well worth it. with the BFG cooler i was getting about 92-93c loads, at stock. with the nv5, i get about 72-73c on load with a volt mod and overclocking
I like AS5 on the core and ceramique on the memory because it is a little heavyer and on the ram makes for better results imo.
Try to tighten the screws first in the nuts without anything else. That way you can feel how much pressure you will need when you tighten down the puppy on the card.

The change in MB temps, while not hugh, are due to the hot air being exhausted out the back;. 3 degrees c under load, thankyou.
I was hoping for more, but I'll take the 3c under idle and 6c under load.
One thing I did notice is that the back of the card is much cooler to the touch, But the area where the (not sure what the right name is) power conditioners are (the small inline heatsink that isn't replaced) is still way to friggin hot . If that puppy could be cooled better the whole rig would cool down by a gajillion degrees!
I'll bet that burns out before any [H]ard OvClking on the GPU
