NV Silencer 5 and Artic Silver

No mater what i do on my 7800gt, my card barely gets better temps than the stock cooler. Since i have used the cooler a few times before i decided to get rid of the old paste and put on some good old artic silver 5. Right now, my temps are around 57-59 depending on ambient. I am postive that contact is good, becuase after the 4th "just to be sure" look, u know.
Is there something bad about using artic silver? I hear most people use ceramique thermal pastes so that may have an effect.
But otherwise, is it worth buying a tube of Artic Cooling MX-1?

well the temps may be teh same...but is the fan roaring like it used to? i highly doubt it
alot of the times the temperatures stay the same but are dead silent compared to the stock coolers...how is it under load? is the temp diff big?

The temp difference is about 2 degrees Celcuis.
But yes
it dead silent with the fan at 100%.
But is it really worth buying ceramquie paste instad?

heh, when i installed the VF700Cu on my 6600GT, i used the paste provided with me. i bought the dynex stuff at BB today for $12 and my temps didn't drop. i even re-applied it twice to make sure, similiar to what you did.
