Buddy of mine is finally upgrading from his MX400..... yea I know OUCH.

Right now we're looking at a 5900XT. Trying to keep as close to 150 if we can.... can go as high as 200...

NVIDIA only... Don't ask why I’ve tried to try and get him to ether way and get a 6600 AGP or a 9800 Pro. So both of them are out. Any suggestions???

Note: No over clocking, got to be good out of the box....or with little effort.

well i hate the fx series except the 5950 Ultra

so i guess get a ti4600

seriously wait for 6600GT (price will be $200)

or go ATI

you could get a gainward 5900xt, just flash it to nu or 5950 speeds, so that's technicaly not overclocking because that's what it'll be at stock, or any other 5900xt really. They're good cards, I got my bfg one up to 460/1000 just to run 3dmark 03, it froze a few, but I got a score of 6344 so yes they're very potent cards

Too bad he can't wait. The AGP 6600s should really pound this price range - WAY higher performance than a 5900XT. Could you maybe convince him to drop just $60 on a 5700LE to hold him over till the 6600s hit? You won't need to upgrade for a while with one of those.

I'd suggest doing what dderidex did unless he wants the best he can get asap.

Yea... hold out for a few weeks on the 6600. These are going to be THE midrange card. I've been very impressed with the cost vs performance ratio in the reviews. Definately your card of choice if you're looking for a budget D3 box.

He held out this long with a MX400. I'll talk to him about the 5700LE to hold him off.
But it's must likely going to be a 5900xt..compaired to his old card it should be sweet.

Thanks!

There's a FX 5900 Ultra in the FS forums going for $200 OBO. (<--- my recommendation)

He looks to be have good heatware references at 38-0

You might offer a little less, but $200 for a 5900 Ultra is a nice deal to start with.

P.S. Dont get a 5700 they suck, the 5900XT (or Ultra above) would be SO MUCH better.
