I'm seeing a few reviews around the net that are saying NUMA support has been enabled in Windows XP SP2, and some of the benchmarks they are showing look like it has, but I haven't been able to find anything definitive at Microsoft's site.
The closest I've found is that the enabling of the NX instruction requires that PAE mode addressing mode must be enabled. And some of the reviews specify making sure ACPI 2.0 support is enabled in the BIOS and then adding the /PAE switch makes NUMA support available in Windows XP SP2.
"Note PAE is only required on systems with processors that support hardware-enforced DEP." from http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/maintain/sp2mempr.mspx
I know that is true for Windows 2003 Server Enterprise NUMA support for 32-bit editions. Anybody seen hard documentation about NUMA support in Windows XP after applying SP2 if PAE is enabled?
This obviously has some big implications for people like myself who are looking into buidling dual Opteron systems before XP 64 bit is available. I had been thinking about heading down a cheaper motherboard route for the short term (since XP is my primary platform), and then getting something with NUMA support after the 64 bit edition is out, but if NUMA support is already available, I'd go ahead and spend the money now.
