It's down to these two monitors.

Nu L921G

L90D+

Here's what i want.....

1. Games
2. Photoshoping
3. Web browsing
4. Movies

....in that order priority. I know i'm not going to get all that in one monitor but i think that NU is gonna fit me better. Does anyone know if it's a PVA panel? It did exceptionally well all around in an anandtech review with no claimed ghosting which would be miraculous for an 8-bit panel at that price. I play fps games for the most part, such as CS:S. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

By the specs on the NU, it is a VA panel (i.e. like Samsung). Which means yes, it is an 8-bit panel. However considering you play FPS games, you will not be happy with its ghosting. The 25ms figure goes much higher than 25 in gray-to-gray...

Unless you do a lot of photoshopping (which I'd then recommend for you to go for one of the Dell/Apple S-IPS panels, as a middle ground), you'd be much happier with the L90, despite its dithered colours.

i don't know how much everyone here trusts anandtech reviews but they seemed to not notice much ghosting.

The Review

And this guy seems to like it....

I don't do MASS amounts of photoshoping so i bet i could live with a 6-bit panel, but if this NU is as good as anandtech makes it sound, then i'd probably go for it.

If your photoshopping is strictly an occasional hobby, then you could probably live with the 6-bit panel. However, despite the reviews, PVA panels still have higher average response times than TN.

hmmm.....well, there's been no mention of ghosting on that NU so that seems to be the most tempting at the moment. I believe it has a Sharp panel in it so that's good news. i really don't wanna screw up on this decision so if there's anymore ppl that photoshop on a TN panel, PLZ speak up and give me ur input. thanks.

final bump....

If anyone has anymore thoughts then speak up. If not, i'm ordering the NU tonight seeing as it seems to be an all around better monitor than the L90D+.

If gaming (and FPS gaming at that) is your primary use I can't imagine why you would go for a 25ms display over an 8ms one, just because one reviewer said they didn't notice "much" ghosting? I think you're using that review to fool yourself into thinking you can have everything you want in a single LCD.

Did you even look at the Anandtech review? I think they'd say something if it ghosts. I know, I'm bothered by the 25ms response time too but it's all about the final result. Either it ghosts or it doesn't, and everyone that has monitor either doesn't say anything about ghosting or they say it has none. And i know i'm not gonna be able to find the "perfect" LCD for what i need, but from the research I've gathered, the NU is about as close as I'm gonna get. I'm still open to either though.

As I said... it's a 25ms PVA panel, its response time won't touch the L90 for gaming. Yes, it will look nicer, and the viewing angles will be drastically better. But... if you're an FPS gamer....... and you're the least bit sensitive to ghosting, I suggest the TN panel.

My point exactly, I was merely trying to convey that neither panel will be an absolutely ideal solution for all of your needs, and since gaming was #1 on your list, my suggestion is the L90. In short, you can't have your cake and eat it too. With regards to ghosting and the AnandTech review, you will notice that for almost every panel discussed in this forum there are those who swear there is absolutely no ghosting and those who returned it because the ghosting bothered them. It largely comes down to how sensitive you are to it. Furthermore, in the Anand review, they rank the motion blur/ghosting on a 1-5 scale and nearly all of the panels get 5's. Given that many of those receiving such high marks are 20 ms+ panels, it makes you wonder just how harshly they scrutinized these screens in games. I'm not saying the ghosting on the 25 ms panel won't be well within acceptable limits for your tastes, but it will definitely be worse than on the TN panel.

very good points. thanks for all the input. i truely appreciate it.

Now, this may be another one of those stupid number tricks companies pull, but is the Samsung 915N's viewing angles any different than that on the L90D+? I was lead to believe that they were the same panel.....but i'm guessing that they're just very similar. What's tempting to me about the 915N is the larger viewing angles and samsungs "No Dead Pixel" policy.

BUT.....

the 915N also doesn't have DVI or an adjustable stand. :( As you've probably noticed, I'm one of the worst decision makers on the planet.

P.S. I think the 915N is sexier too

Hey Goat, I don't think im gonna be able to get a decent picture of that color scale for you. When you factor in the Screen itself, my cameras resolution, its particular CM Sensor, the ambient lighting adjustment and then the JPEG compression..ect..ect... I don't think its gonna give you a good idea of how well the L90D+ will work for you.

Thank being said, Photoshop looked just fine and dandy IMHO, but Im not a heavy PS person by any means. I hooked up my Viewsonic CRT again and did some comparisons in PS, that color gradient picture, some high rez photo's online, and games and for the most part, the colors are pretty well matched. Depending on what was showing, the greens can differ, especially in hi rez photo's and some games in dark areas show a difference as well in comparison.

I think your pretty much only option is to order one and try it and see if it meets your expectations and return it due to disfatisfaction. If your that worried about color trueness and clarity, then your better off with an 8bit panel and adjusting to having more ghosting your games. In my case, the color on my L90D+ is fine for my useage and its lack of ghosting is my main reason for purchasing it.

Like many people have said, no LCD is going to be "perfect" with given technology at this point in time. Each technology and manufacturer are going to have its pluses and minuses on their LCD's.

alright, looks like the L90D+ is what i'm going with. thanks again everyone for your opinions. :D

*** EDIT *** L90D+ has been ordered. Should be here on the 9th.....can't wait.
