So im overclocking my GA-EP45-UD3P with a e8500 inside of it. I get a great overclock run a bunch of different stress tests, everything passes. But randomly when i play games, HoN.... L4D2, CS, CSS, GRID, w/e.... the game screen will just go grey or black and freeze and die forcing me to restart. Or sometimes that screen will flicker. I have tried everything from changing my vcore from 1.3 to 1.45... im currently @ 9.5 x420 down from 440 thinking or hoping it would help. I have no idea what causes this =(( Any ideas? Oh im running a 5870 o/c 900/1300... ive tried defaults and it still does it =\ So im just keeping it o/c. Sometimes i could run for hours gaming and it wont freeze... and other times it will. Could it be my card? I dunno =(
 
if its flickering or going black its usually gpu related.. check for newer drivers then you are using.. could be power related or lack of power.. check temps.. do all the usual stuff first.. but leave the card defaulted for now and make sure the voltages are defaulted as well..
 
Well the temps arnt horrible for my 5870 but I guess this card cant take "higher" temps since the 9.12 drivers hit. Interesting... going back to 9.11 worked great. thx!
 
Have you tried the new 10.2 yet? Or were they causing the issue in the first place?

Do you have stock cooling or aftermarket? How is the air flow within your case (I'm assuming you're using stock cooling).
