NTLDR is missing!

i bought an abit IC7MAX3 MB so i could do a little bit of O/Cing. all was great for a few months, then i decided to chill for a bit. when i decided to do some more O/Cing after about a 2 month layoff, i got an error message. i would go into my soft menu bios, and change my FSB to about 215 which is supposed to O/C my 3 ghz P4 (northwood) to approx 3.25 ghz. the thing is, when i went to post, this "NTLDR is missing" message shows up. when i put my settings back to standard settings, the message leaves and i can post. i reformatted my HD and reinstalled Windows XP pro. but no change in the situation. do i need to flash my BIOS again? where does the NTLDR reside? is it a bios thing or a windows thing? thanks for the advice in advance!

Windows thing, a high overclock can cause the message when windows isnt screwed up. I would check your temps and blow the dust out of your heatsink.
 
i cleaned it top to bottom just before i reformatted. the same day i tried to over clock again. when i was overclocking before, i was getting to 3.4 and was completely stable. i got an sp-94 hs with a tt mack daddy fan. ive never had a problem with temps before, and they still look fine. any other ideas? thanks!
 
If it doesnt work, do a repair installation on it to return all the DLLs if they are corrupted.
 
Eject the floppy.

Just kidding. Unless there really is a floppy in the drive. :p
 
sounds like you are overclokcing your ide bus...check and see if there is a agp/pci lock in your bios...if there is lock your pci to 33mhz and your agp to 66...that should solve your problem

This is most likely correct. I had the same problem when I first got my system. My board doesn't have a pci/agp lock on it so overclocking was screwing those speeds up.
 
i had it happen to me with a kt266 board i used to have...fsb past 142 and no windows boot...past 139 or so and no usb...weird
 
Those locks will not always work so good at the higher bus speeds.
 
thanks alot for the help guys, ill give all those things a try when i get home from work tomorrow! im gonna try the pci/agp lock first, then go for the repair. i just installed windows so i dont know how something could be wrong already, but ill try anything at this point. and NO, the floppy was not in there! :)
 
boot off the setup cd, go into the recovery console
go into the I386 folder of the cdrom drive
then copy ntldr and ntdetect.com to your boot drive
(ntldr has no file extension)...
that should be it

EDIT: shit i didnt read the part where you said it goes away.. try doing this at the overclocked speed, and make sure your AGP/PCI lock is on if you have it
