Natural Selection 2 pre-order #1 Indie on Steam and thank you gifts!‏

Today, Natural Selection 2 went up on the Steam Store for pre-order. This day is one we have looked forward to for many years, and marks a major milestone in the development of this game. We are also happy to announce a release month: October. As we clear some final hurdles over the next few weeks, we will nail that down to a specific day.

Two versions of NS2 will ultimately be available on the Steam Store: Standard and Deluxe. The Standard edition will cost $24.99 and gives you the full game. The Deluxe edition costs $39.99 and gives you the full game plus a whole bag of goodies:

Deluxe Edition

  • NS2 Official Soundtrack (almost 1 hour of music)
  • Digital Art Book (40 pages)
  • Exclusive wallpapers and avatars
  • Exclusive new in-game marine armor

From now until release day in October, Deluxe Edition will be the only version available on Steam, and will be discounted to $24.99. There is also a 4-pack available for $74.97.
Now for the really cool part: We have some presents for everyone who pre-ordered the game before today's Steam release (anyone who has played in the NS2 beta). You all receive:

  • A free upgrade to the Deluxe Edition detailed above
  • A free copy of NS2 Standard Edition to give to a friend or stroke lovingly
  • Continued private beta access right up to launch day in October

This means that today, we are giving away 45,000 copies of the NS2 Standard Edition for free. If you own the NS2 Special Edition (Black Armor) we will be adding an option to allow you to switch between Deluxe and Special Edition armor.

Bah, edited the title after I realized I misread their announcement.

Free deluxe version upgrade if you pre-purchase on Steam. Anyone who pre-purchased before it was available on Steam (from their site over the past couple of years) will be getting a free extra copy to gift away (or stroke lovingly).

Still not a bad deal at $24 though!
 
Wait a minute... I remembered you could pre-order the deluxe and the standard, I pre ordered the standard back in February... so, if I am getting a free deluxe version upgrade along with a free copy and private beta access until release, what are the people who originally pre-ordered the deluxe edition going to get?

The "special edition" had an exclusive Black Armor DLC, along with the deluxe edition and alpha/beta access, etc.

No the Black armor will not be available for the "Deluxe edition", it was a one time only DLC for the now N/A Special Edition.

Nothing more than 'October 2012'. Oh and if anyone doesn't know what to do with their extra free copy, I'd gladly help you make good use of it ;)
 
so if i go on steam and get it right now do i get acess to the beta?
