I was messing arround in the console and I deleted something and now the system won't save any setting. When I dual telnet into the switch and run monitor in one session while attempting to alter the system location with the other, the monitor session tells me that the command resulted in an "access denied". I am able tftp files to and from the switch but I dont know what files I am missing nor do i have any backups of them.

If anyone here has this switch, could you please give me a log of the CLI's dir command? And possibly a few files to replace the ones that got deleted?

Hey Kritter,

I may be able to help you out. I just recently got a pair of 24mg's but am having trouble console-ing into them. I have tried different bit rates but to no avail. If you could give me any info that would be much appreciated and I may then be able to get you what you need...

use Putty, http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/

connection to com port, set speed to 19200.
click keyboard tab and set backspace to control-h.
click open button on the bottom right.

when the console opens hit enter, you should see the login screen.

Edit: The latest firmware I have is 1.50.81 If you need this, I can provide. If you have a newer one than this, could you please send it to me?

Thanks.
I'm still having trouble though, I guess I'm just using the wrong cables....

Could I ask what kind of cable you use? Is it a cisco serial to RJ45/DB9 adapter, a straight through serial cable, or some sort of DCE to DTE cable or adapter?

I have been unsuccessful with cisco serial and straight through serial cable while using putty and hyperterminal.....

so close...

I can't really help you with your problem other than to offer a new in box NPI 24 slave switch if anyone wants it. I'll find the model # tonight

did a little searching through the wayback machine online and it looks like I need a null modem cable instead of my (as I just found out) straight through cables. Just ordered some a couple of days ago from cablesdirect.com and will try to get into them once they arrive.
Will update with results in a week or so...

yeah, its a bitch when you don't have null modem cables and need them. When I first had a use for them I went to frys AND the local "altex" electonics. Both has been cleaned out.
I just used a straight through cable a null modem adapter and the required gender changer.

Now I have 4-5 null modem cables in use and the 2 old cables that I was using the adapter on are in a box in a case I need them.
